TLDR: This was an AMERICAN accomplishment, one in which this country has taken great pride in. To purposely exclude the planting of the US flag from the film is a serious slap in the face to the entire country. Don't expect people to flock to your movie if it slaps them in the face.

Trivia... (and I don't know the answer):
was Bill Conti's Academy Award for Best Musical Score, for The Right Stuff, the only Oscar won by an LSU alumnus?

I'm thinking no.. there were others. Just not sure, though.
