Honest Question - Elections

Why would states be permitted to make their own rules regarding procedures for a federal election?
Doesn’t federal oversight and standardized procedure make sense in that case?

Because we are a republic of states and the federal government only has the power that is stated in our constitution.

Let's say that feds pass ID requirement.
What's to keep a state from issuing IDs with no vetting to anyone who applies for one?
You could have illegals laundered through and be fully compliant with fed rules

Now just think, the people who have access to the machines and counts are typically in an entry level government position for their whole life.

They’d have a lawsuit on their hands out the yingyang. Every granny who had her license taken because she couldn’t pass the eye test any longer? DUI fella who had his license suspended? They’d all get licenses if states started handing them out like candy to illegals no questions asked.

So - perhaps the slippery slope - but why a drivers license? Why not a voter ID issued by the Fed?
It’s how you got your SS number.

It should but that would cut off their vote factories.

Are you aware you can get an ID without it having to be a drivers license?
The more you know!

They will for sure find a way around this.

It’s a good question, but for better or worse, this is an issue over which the Constitution gives control to the states.

Because our Constitution says the state's will determine how they will collect the vote for federal elections. As part of this process, the state's are given the power to choose how they will determine the electors for the electoral college vote. In the country's first presidential elections, some states had no popular vote and allowed the legislature to choose the electors, in other states they left it up to the popular vote.

I'm talking about state issued IDs not driver's licenses.

I am. I’m also aware how states like California were handing out drivers licenses and CDL’s to illegals.

Well that is illegal. Ignoring it is illegal but that's what they do.
