Here’s some evidence that certain reporters want more testing so that things look worse

Florida today reported 15k new cases, a record. It’s being blasted all over twitter by Bernie Bernstein nyc and dc journalists

Yet: positivity rate at a 2.5 week low.

Florida conducted an astounding 150k tests yesterday. By far the most per capita of anywhere in the world yesterday.

We were told throughout this entire pandemic that testing is paramount. Well, we get the testing and journalists use the scary numbers the mass testing produces to push a narrative

I posted yesterday to give some context to the numbers.

If the only testing we had done for Covid was the tests we performed on Friday in the US, we would have tested more for the virus than all but 38 countries.

All but 38 countries have tested fewer than 832,000 people for the entirety of this pandemic.

We are only a target because we have a Republican governor.

The daily positivity rate, which is the number of positive cases compared to those tested on a given day, hit a new record Thursday at 18.39% and on Saturday it was 11.25%, according to the DOH.

Who is pushing a narrative here? Case positivity was at a two and a half week low on Saturday, but an all-time high on Thursday and the Saturday figure is about 5-6 times what could reasonably be construed as good. Florida is going through a tough time with the disease at the moment.

Here’s another thing that nobody is talking about

Multiple Florida labs are not reporting negative tests

RebelACole
@RebelACole
This is a scandal begging for press coverage:

333 FL Covid Testing labs reported 100% positive tests today in State Report for 3,528 tests.

That is 34% of today's 10,360 new cases.

Without these, today's "percent positive" would fall from 12.6% to 8.7%.

My point hasn't shifted. You're saying that a particular news outlet is giving the overall case figure without the necessary context that the case figure came from a record testing day and that the case positive figure is 11.25% and it is misleading to do so. Indeed it is. But it is equally as misleading for you to not offer the additional context that 11.25% is a really bad case positivity rate. Californa is around 8% and that's also bad. New York and New Jersy are less than 1%. The rest of the first world is pretty low as well. 11% ain't it.

I get that, but maybe it is the start of a downward trend.

There is already evidence of hospitalization plateau in az and tx. but too soon to tell.

Louisiana has a pretty high positivity rate at close to 20% but they use CDC guidelines on based on per capita case growth which works against you if you are testing a ton like Florida is.

It’s good and bad. Percent positive will likely be high in voluntary test scenarios since people who think they have it seek testing. I think that’s where Louisiana is at.

The hospitals are only getting 50-60 new patients per day statewide at 60% capacity. That’s not bad.

This is a good point. The media consider the US to be on par with other OECD countries and if Florida has tens of thousands of cases a day and rising when a country like Germany with 4 times the population has about 200, the story the news is going to cover isn't going to be "Florida is still kinda doing ok".

If that is true it would seem prudent for someone to investigate it.

I 100% get that.

I still think (and nate silver agrees with me) that you have to take into account how geographically large america is. You were never going to see our country get hit at the same time and recover at the same time

Florida, arizona, CA, and TX are going to eventually have the same looking curves as NY (much smaller peaks though) and europe.

You know better than to just lie. 2% is way below the threshold established by the WHO.

Germany isn’t testing asymptomatic patients. We will likely test more people this week than Germany has ever tested.

NJ positivity rate is 2.23. The RT (rate of transmission is down to 0.98 so maybe that's what you're thinking of.

In that case, our case positivity rate should be much lower than Germany's since they're specifically seeking out the potentially infected patients who are either symptomatic or identified through contact tracing.

Germany does .84 test per 000 people in a country of a bit more than 83 million so about 70,000 targeted test a day. As you can see they have a much lower case positivity rate. They are just managing this whole thing much better than we are largely by executing our plan.

No different than Anderson Cooper standing waist deep in a ditch reporting on flooding or those Weather Channel people’s doom and gloom.

Media is hyping Florida numbers because they want the RNC shot down.
