And the slippery slope begins. A person not convicted of a crime having his rights taken away. If you're going to take rights away, the person needs to be convicted of a crime in a court first. A restraining order doesn't meet that bar. All you need for a restraining order is a Karen ex-wife.
It might not be polite to say, but I honestly think it's standard operating practice for divorce attorneys to get restraining orders on the other party. Helps get leverage with custody, etc. I remember talking to a lawyer friend in the 90's who said as much.
Going through a divorce or a breakup isn't grounds for gun-grabbing or prevention of purchase.

Did he say anything about the pandemic of black people killing each other and everybody else?
If 6% of the people were easily identifiable Trump supporters who always wore red hats (even in the shower) and they committed half the murders do you think the saps that write biden's twitter nonsense would say something about it?

So, alluding to the import of Background Checks in their proposal...would that mean that Hunter Biden will be prosecuted for lying on his Federal Gun Application Form? Or just people who vote for Trump?

It’s been the law since the 1990s that people under a restraining or protective order cannot own firearms or ammunition. It’s called the Lautenberg Amendment.

All of this is over-reach. But people with restraining orders not being able to have a gun, or having their lawfully obtained guns removed is absolute horse shite. During my first divorce, future ex-wife's attorney sent over a "first draft" of the decree, which included a restraining order.
I've never once threatened, verbally or physically anyone, especially not her. I asked my attorney "WTF? How can she do that?" His response was that, "that's boiler plate negotiating. we should just leave it there, because if we ask them to remove it, they'll want to add some new items which will hurt worse. The only impact to you would be a delay if you ever want to buy a gun." -- so I refused to even acknowledge the first draft. Fired my attorney and got a new one. (he was a pot-smoking loon with 'kama-sutra' and 'the power of pot' books on his bookshelf.
New attorney made sure no restraining order would ever show up - he was an avid hunter and understood the ramifications.
