I honestly don’t know why people are invoking politics into any of this

The moral of the story is: Covid is a religious cult. It has turned loving friends and family members into paranoid lunatics, who seem giddy to excommunicate anyone who doesn't share their fear. We are never going back to what it was like prior to March 2020. Too many people have been brainwashed to such a degree that we will never be the same.

It’s a damn shame but this is what the politicization of a pandemic has brought.

I am a "Trumper" as you call us. I don't mind being called a "Trumper" as long as you don't mind being truthfully called a worthless, piece of shite, scumbag Obama/Hillary/Biden voter.

I don't need CNN, MSNBC, or Anthony Fauci to help me decide against that vaccine.

My mom felt the need to lie to my sister and tell her I wasn’t working from the office because my sister is so scared I’ll pass the omicron onto my parents. And my mom is pretty paranoid herself.

I realize that I am blessed in one way. I have a few family members who are vaccinated and a few that are not. It is not an issue with anyone in my family. We all realize that this is a personal choice between you and your doctor. It sucks that your father can not respect your choices ,but you put a boundary and told him that he doesn't have to agree with your choice ,but you will not tolerate his behavior towards that choice. I am sure it was a hard choice ,but it is up to him to understand that people have their own will.

May I direct your attention to a gentleman from the former USSR named Yuri Bezmenov in 1984.
I am not going to post a link, but it is easy to find, and he lays out what has happened for the last 35 or so years.

And here we are.

Oh, I'm well aware and it's a shame Yuri's warning to us fell on many deaf ears. It's a death by a 1000 cuts and the CCP in particular are very patient. They have no problem waiting years, even decades for something to get results. If the lot of party members weren't incompetent by their own hubris and rampant corruption they could have easily become a superpower. The biggest reason they step on their own dicks constantly is due to their fear of "losing face".

Honestly, our greatest weapon against them is straight up trolling the motherfrickers. It's West Taiwan, a pretender, a usurper, the new coke of the two Chinas. They're basically the manlet of the world, low self esteem and the flexing of synthol pumped "muscles" that gave us the Wolf Warrior diplomacy where they still look incompetent on the world stage but hey it plays well for the home crowd. Thanks to good old Communist branded education, they have no creative individuals to make competitive military hardware so why they have to resort to electronic espionage. Remember, you're a faceless cog with just enough education to design a circuit board but not smart enough to conceptualize critical thinking. Huawei, one of their largest companies, isn't innovative. Hell their business started on blatantly copying not only Cisco code for their network switches but even copied the manuals word for word. I see recently their latest cell phone is creating buzz. It's a copy of Samsung's Galaxy Fold.

This is supposed to be their best? The CCP is a joke.

We give them a lot of credit they don't deserve but they're not the type of opponent to sleep on. They don't want a shooting war with us because they can't win a shooting war with us. So this is what they do. Divide and conquer and thanks to the suckers willing to go along with it and listen to the useful idiots who happily take the CCP's money to continue this charade. So long as they're getting paid they keep stoking that fire. This right here is what they want and I would not be shocked that even if, just speculating here, COVID was just an incompetent faceless cog lab worker who carelessly didn't follow safety protocols and brought this weak arse plague upon the world, you best believe the CCP will take advantage of the political fallout in some form or fashion.

So no, I'm not going to just stop talking to a loved one because of this. However I'm not going to indulge in it. That's it, full stop. I'm not going to tell you if I was vaccinated or not, or if my kids were or even my opinion on it. Nope, there are far more interesting things to discus than the one thing everyone has already been discussing ad-nauseum for the past two years. I refuse to let that bullshite affect my personal well being.

Why is your dad under the delusion that his vaccinated body can’t also spread covid?

I’ve had to do battle with my parents a few times which is nuts because they are lifelong conservative republicans. I think the issue is that as they age they still consume surface level MSM just as they always did. Without realizing it they got infected with bullshite and now are filled with fear about everything and think Trump is mean.

A few weeks ago my dad was bitching about COVID and inflation and taxes, etc. and all I kept saying was “I know dad, but no mean tweets”. He started to get aggravated after a while lol. I had a similar conversation with mom and finally got her to agree with me that policy is more important than personality, there are no unicorns, and life was objectively better when Trump was in office. I know dad feels the same way, but dad has never admitted to being wrong in his life and he isn’t going to start now so I’ll just smile and toss a cheap shot at him every now and then and move on.

I have a 2 year old daughter and we are protective of her potentially being exposed to covid.
In 2020 she had to be hospitalized with a virus that never able to be diagnosed. We know it was negative Covid as well as dozens of other virus the hospital could run a panel on. Luckily with some fluids it was just a couple nights stay and she was able to beat it.

But knowing how another virus already sent her to the hospital I really don’t want to chance what covid would do to her if I can avoid her ever catching it.

I always read these stories here about people's brother or dad being insane lefties or Covidians. I'd never let my brother or dad get like that. I'd whip them straight.

The stupidity of that is demonstrated with a simple thought experiment: What if they whipped you into thinking like them? Kind of a ridiculous thought, right?

I have a younger brother who is a Masked Covidian. He is 58. He is estranged from my other brother because my other brother is completely insouciant about Covid, and has been hilariously so from the beginning. My skeptical brother is not preachy or judgmental, but my Covidian brother has seen fit to ostracize him. It’s weird because I’m just as skeptical as my older brother, but he hasn’t gone to war on me. I think to him my skeptical brother is like the white whale was to Ahab.

If your Dad still talks to you after this, you can probably be a bit more patient with his vaccine support.

OP said dad had resorted to bullying and anger regarding his son's different position on the vaccine. If that's indeed the case, surely OP doesn't owe patience in such a situation.

also wrong. This is easy to prove, and they have. The only question is how good the data is. But, I think the general consensus even among those

Great response! I just want to point out that you are too cerebral to continue using “general consensus” since EVERY consensus is general.

This simply didn't happen.

Probably not. I’m sure in a country of 330 million there are a half dozen examples like this, but the odds that every leftist on here knows two or three are a million to one.

I work at a company with almost a thousand employees, many of whom are old and out of shape, and none of them died of covid. I know one person outside of work who died of covid and she was ancient, bedridden, and was in and out of hospice for three years. But argue with a leftist and they’ll tell you of the 24 close friends, who were right wing antivaxers, who died of covid. And among those were at least one who said it was a hoax and one who was an ultra marathoner.

Yeah, I have a few family members that are pretty much shunning anyone who didn't get jabs. I tried to explain that this is irrational since vaccinated people are contracting and spreading the virus, but no dice.

Just tell him that you and he should not discuss Covid anymore. No need to destroy your relationship over such nonsense. My mom is the same way, I just won’t discuss it with her. I let her prattle on then but tell her when I’ve had enough.

My dad passed in August and I wish I had more time to talk with him. Don’t die on this hill.

Only on this board. It’s not a remotely interesting or worthwhile topic outside of the Deep South or in educated circles. I love to poke fun at y’all about it because y’all get so mad about it I’m in a red county in California where the vax rate is high (commensurate with the education level) and literally no one cares enough to even talk about it.
