Before the virus pandemic, I had mostly hoped that if everything went south and the government tried to take our rights away, many in the police and military would be on our side. Perhaps it was a naive view, based on my hopes that cops wouldn’t arrest or jail fellow neighbors should an overzealous government try to quell our rights.
And I know the cases are isolated, but seeing cops arrest people in parks for just playing with their kids, jailing or ticketing business owners for wanting to work, ticketing or arresting people for going to church, etc. has changed my mind somewhat.
Has anyone else had to reevaluate their stance on the police after witnessing some of the things happening lately?

No. Any opinion that people won’t act in their own self interest, I.e. following orders when they are getting paid to do so, is naive and stupid.

You’re relying on a bunch of people who take orders from the people we despise to help us out. The police and military are just pawns, they were never here to help you.

There will be some LEO who refuse to violate our 2A rights. But many will enjoy the power trip of attempting to take arms from their fellow citizens.

No

There are over 1 million law enforcement people.

I have read stories on no more than a handful.

Is that sample "scientific"? done without bias?

I was pretty satisfied with Harris County SO response to our little fascist judge’s order to wear masks or be jailed.

Without outright rebuking her - they issued a statement saying they were really focused on actual crime and instructed officers to use “discretion” in enforcement. He all-capped, bolded and repeated the word “discretion” three times - and released a copy of the letter to his officers to the press immediately. think the message was pretty clear.

No, I've known many cops in my lifetime and every one of them were human.

That is to say, some were good people and some were not, no different than any demographic.

Hasn’t really changed one way or the other... still good one out there and bad ones that make the good ones look bad.

One glimmer of hope was Harris County Police and Sheriffs response to little miss twats mask order.

As a Christian, the zealousness to restrict freedom of religion so harshly and quickly has surprised me some. Though it shouldn’t have.

If the pandemic has shown that we need to elect better people to represent us if anything

The vast majority of police officers are jackbooted thugs. When it comes down to it, they are simply brainless and directionless hired mercenaries who wouldn't know whether to shite or wind their watch unless someone told them to.

I got stopped on Napoleon yesterday heading home from work at one of these new checkpoints. Slight crack in the window and verbatim:

Me: "Good afternoon. You are being recorded. Am I being detained or am I free to go?"

Female Cop: "Uhhh, you're free to go. We're just here to remind..."

Window rolled up before she could finish. Went on my way.

You thought a cop wouldn’t use a violation of rights to go on a power trip to boost his own ego?

Really?

As I agree check points are unconstitutional. You probably rolled your window down and none of this happened.

Please give an idea or summary how a “majority” of police are jackbooted thugs?

Many instances in the country where police/sheriff have come out and said they will not enforce certain newer city ordinances or newer state laws.

The police response of harassing people at beaches and parks has been disappointing.

Just have a conversation without acting like Billy badass.

Those are the unions. I’d bet cops will write tickets here for not wearing masks.

1.) I know this because I've worked directly with law enforcement in several jurisdictions in both Georgia (Chatham) and Louisiana (JP, Kenner, St. John, St. James, St. Tammany). The vast majority are dirt bags. In my experience, this is true. Cops are a gang. Do what they think they have to do and find - or create - cause for it later.

2.) I had my hospital badge on. I said what I said verbatim and certainly was not about to hand over my ID to someone whose gloves likely touched hundreds of other ID cards before mine.

3.) The police are not your boss. YOU likely would have rolled YOUR window down and complied. Don't project your propensity for getting bent over and raped by Johnny Law on to me.

Terry v. Ohio. "Having a conversation" with people who want to screw you is just digging yourself a hole.

And the AG responded to them to focus on the real criminals and use their own discretion...

Like I said yesterday, won’t see them down policing the homeless camps near downtown. Bc they don’t pay fines.

No

The truth is these are isolated cases that are magnified in the media and because of the situation we are in. That being said, if you place your trust in anyone much past yourself your setting yourself up for disappointment.
