The problem is that Harvard graduates will go into white collar jobs and their companies are not interested in being equal to their competitors.
The children of the nobility do not worry with trivial things like labor beyond managing the whip-bearers.

Didn't they announce about a year ago or so that they were going to do away with grades?

Giving out too many A's diminishes the value of getting an A. They are too dumb to get it. There's this thing called the Bell Curve. I wonder if they were ever taught about it.

Well, Harvard is just being consistent. They see their mission as promoting equality. If everyone gets an 'A' in every subject you can't get any more equal than that. The problem is that Harvard graduates will go into white collar jobs and their companies are not interested in being equal to their competitors.
Not equality, equity. And a big part of the grade inflation is probably letting in unqualified students and having to flatten the curve so they don't fail.

I saw an interesting video last year about companies shying away from hiring Ivy League. But it wasn't because of wokeness. It was salary expectations without superior ability. IE, the second tier college grad from U. Texas realizes that the first year of his employment as an engineer in about learning how the corporation does things and will settle for a $75K starting salary. The Harvard grad will demand $150 because 'I'm from Harvard'. That argument would work if he had a superior education in engineering. But he didn't.

"I can't reach my maximum level of enjoyment just learning the material because I'm so anxious about the midterm, so anxious about the papers, and because I know it's so harshly graded," she said. "If that standard is raised even more, it's unrealistic to assume that people will enjoy their classes."
I dunno. I thought part of becoming an adult was learning to find joy in things that are difficult. It's called growing as a person.

They may have not made it through the 80's.
I had many engineering tests where the average grade was 40 or less, never knew what that proved but it happened.

Give me a military combat vet who graduated from state school over any of these Ivy League kids.
I wouldn't go that far on only that criteria (as I saw many total fricking idiot vets while at my state school), but with the Ivy League minimizing intelligence segregation at the acceptance stage, you can't just assume the Ivy student/grad is smart these days. That automatic cache is gone.

"What makes a Harvard student a Harvard student is their engagement in extracurriculars," he said. "Now we have to throw that all away and just pursue academics."
Our education system is just a credential mill, whole generations that have been deluded into thinking they are the "best educated ever" but are functionally illiterate and lack even basic problem solving skills.
