A degree in mechanical engineering from LSU is not nearly as academically sound as from UT or TAMU, much less against a degree, even in black studies, from Harvard.
How are you objectively measuring this?

50+ billion endowment and they still want taxpayer money to fund their research and students in only their terms..

Initially, like Penrod, from out of my arse but I grok'd it and the black studies degree from Harvard and the engineering degree from LSU are virtual ties in earning value, whereas the same degree from UT or A&M is considered more sound and more highly regarded by employers and would command a higher pay than the person with the degree from LSU.

It certainly is “nearly as academically sound” as those from Texas and TAMU. I’ve hired about 20 engineers from Texas, about 60 from TAMU and over 200 from LSU. I don’t pretend that I got similar percentiles from each, but the LSU students were the best, hands down. I was definitely able to get students from the top quartile of LSU, whereas it was more like the second quartile of those other two.

Obviously, YMMV with individual candidates, but just based off the US News & World's annual rankings, the graduate program at LSU for mechanical engineering is ranked at #111 out of 198 programs nationally. LSU isn't even in the top 50% of their rankings, whereas UT-Austin is #10 and TAMU is #11. Even little old UT-Arlington's program is ranked at #88 out of 198 programs, putting it in the top 50%.

I suppose the intrinsic homeboy value of being from LSU plays into your decision-making as to why you seem to lean heavily into hiring LSU grads.

First, I give little credence to US News rankings. There are all kinds of bullshite woke criteria in those.

Second, I have little doubt that A&M and UT have better engineering programs, and I never posted to the contrary.

Third, I gave a very solid hint as to why I hired so many more LSU students; I could hire the first quartile there.

The point of my post was not that LSU was as good but that the difference wasn’t great; it’s not. So BTYW.

A STEM degree from any state university is worth more than a gender studies degree from Harvard.
