I've long held the opinion that it was a mistake for them to increase production years ago.
Stay a boutique brand with demand far outstripping supply and you'll still be profitable if the fad fades.

People make fun of Harley drivers and use Boomer speak like
"GOBBLESS" and "CRANK MUH HAWG"
Harley is dying.

They had Buell. They didn't sell, so it went tits up
Buell is still around....barely.
They are trying to bring the Super Cruiser to market. That bike is just what everyone wants. A cruiser, with cruiser handling and braking coupled with superbike power and no rider modes.
Other than the Roland Sands types and the Roland Sands wannabes, I do not see it doing anything.

In much the same way the Chinese aren’t trying to sell more product, they are trying to destroy our industries.

No one could have forseen this with their commitment to go all-in on EV and promoting trans events lol. Like CNN, their +%50 decline in sales is a total mystery.

Yeah, fit and finish is second to none, but everything else is average or below average and the price point says it isn't
All true. It seems a little silly and a little vain to overlook all the flaws of a Harley in favor of the iconic growl but that growl is fricking spectacular. A piped up Harley is like riding a dragon.

Long ago, a friend of mine had an XLCR. I took it for a ride and really liked it but don't know how something like that would do in today's market.

Harley is a dying brand anyway. Pretty sure everyone younger than 40 thinks they are extremely lame.
If they don't start producing products that the average person can afford, then you could definitely be right.
If you look at the major manufacturers of large cruiser motorcycles, there are lots of options that far surpass HD's technology and beat the hell out of their price point.
Harley had a big run of buyers in the 90's when RUB's (Rich Urban Bikers) got involved in the brand. You know, lawyers, doctors, white collar execs with disposable income and owning a HD became the trend at the time. There were months long waiting lists at all the dealerships with the demand outpacing the production.
Well, that bubble burst and then there was a glut of hardly used HD's on the market and it hasn't really been the same since. Head to a HD dealership today and you can have your choice of just about any model they produce and ride out the same day.
I've been riding for 54 years and have only owned 1 HD. It was a 59 Panhead I bought as a basket case for $500 back in 71 and put it together in a couple weeks at my house.
I decided I wanted a new bike and rode over to the HD dealership that was on Downman Rd. and got with a salesman. The bike I wanted was going to cost me about $200 a month for 36 months plus the $1800 I had for the downpayment. I decided to leave to check out other options.
I rode to the Honda Dealership that was in Arabi on the corner of St. Claude and Lebeau St. and wound up buying a brand new 77 750 Honda Super Sport for the $1800 in my pocket and they tossed in a new helmet.
I dodged that bullet with the HD since that was when AMF had taken over the company and was producing shite bikes that were very unreliable.

Folks can say what they want about the downturn at HD having been something already happening for many years before going 'woke'. That's not the issue. Just like Bud Light, which brought in an Ivy League diversity hire who didn't know or much care for the product's core customer to 'shake things up' and revive sagging sales.
They may have needed a change, but wokism wasn't it. It never is. Especially with these niche brands. Which there seems to be a trend with turning the most American, the most macho and freedom loving name brands into 'globally acceptable' pansy arse companies.
ALMOST like strings were being pulled and this was all being done on purpose.

We had a director leave our company for Harley Davidson a few months back. He’s already been calling to see if he can get his old position back. Said HD is nothing like he thought it would be and is a cesspool of woke nonsense in the office environment
