Can someone explain the process
I assume either the house or the Senate will have to introduce legislation lowering the age and then there will have to be some sort of debate and it will then pass and go onto the next house at which point there will be some sort of debate and it will pass and then go to the governor for signature
That's all well and good but each of these justices on the Supreme Court have a specific term and you cannot eliminate their job in the middle of their term meaning they will have to wait until it all gets sorted out which will well be after November

This says it better than I can.

The current ages of the 7 Justices on the Virginia Supreme Court are: 70 69 67 64 61 56 54
The idea that the legislature would lower the retirement age to 53 in order to remove them all is just beyond wild.
Then they would install 7 new Justices who would have to commit in advance to reversing the prior Court's decision -- that tells you everything you would ever need to know about anyone who would pledge to do that.
Three Justices voted in the minority, but you can't exempt them from the retirement because they might object to a corrupt process to remove their colleagues for no reason other than naked partisan politics.
This would DESTROY the functional independence of the Virginia Supreme Court, and be a permanent stain on the votes of every Virginia Assembly Democrat who went along with it. It would bring condemnation from Courts and Legislatures all across the country. Virginians need to take a hard look at the people it is electing, and ask whether they have the foundational commitment to the Great American Experiment that has held this country together -- even through a Civil War.
In Virginia, of all places.

It's always about getting their way and they will stop at nothing. It is never "The Constitution" or "Democracy".

I'm sure that these marxists have written in their legislation, that their law is effective immediately with no consideration of length of term of the judges.
They are insane and communists, but not stupid.

From the article it sounds like if the radical Governor agrees to go along with it they’re gonna do it.
I imagine this would be challenged in court if they go through with it. Lowering mandatory retirement age for justices for the sole purpose of removing them because you don’t like a ruling cannot be allowed to stand. It would set a terrible precedent and be a slippery slope that further erodes the judiciary and system of checks and balances. There’s no reason to even have a court if you can remove the justices and replace them with ones who rubber stamp your agenda

Good odds the VA Supreme Court overturns it.

Even if they reduce the mandatory retirement age, how can that affect rulings already in place?
Nothing like respecting the rule of law.

So, after the Dems set this ridiculous precedent, how can Trump and Republicans use it to our advantage?

They plan to lower the mandatory retirement age of justices to 54 to force them out
Can they change the retirement age for a sitting justice? Are they elected or appointed? I don't think they can sell this.

We are at a dangerous time with these folks. They never have wholesome thoughts. Congress should only meet for half the year.

So by lowering the age requirement aren't they going to get wrecked by the fact they are showing age discrimination?
