Scott Jennings is on the radio peacocking about how he was right and that in fact Mitch did call him. To be honest, he looks more alive in that photo than I’ve seen him in years.

Why announce one and not the other? I'm not 100% on the particulars but I'm pretty sure the governor of each state gets to select the immediate replacement for the rest of the term -and/or- until the next special election.

SC Governor: Republican
KY Governor: Democrat

You can announce Lindsay's death because it is practically certain the SC Gov will choose a Republican as the immediate replacement.

I believe with Mitch they are stalling while trying to run out the clock until the time passes when the KY Gov can just choose a Democrat to replace him. This is also likely why the KY Gov (and Dems) keep chirping about proof-of-life. If they can prove Mitch's dead now, and not in 4 weeks or so, then Beshear appoints a Dem for the immediate replacement.

You lose 1 R Senator in this manner, with Murkowski and Collins among those counted as R's, and you can pretty much kiss goodbye the chances of the Senate accomplishing anything for the rest of this year

I could always be wrong, but I suspect this is the most likely reason why they announced Lindsay and remain secretive about Mitch.

Question now: which side blinks first?

The paper is not AI-generated. It was from the Washington Post.

I put it into several AI image checkers, and they all said it was a real photo.

The one thing that looks very suspicious is how young he looks.

That is the number one red flag. Guy looks way too fresh for being in the hospital for few weeks. He looked like a gloomy half-dead politician the last few years. Now he looks fresh and smiling? Psh.

McConnell will have to make it to September 8 to not have a special election.
