Like clock work.

quote:

New York is experiencing its greatest homelessness crisis since the Great Depression — we just can’t see it. This fact may elicit cognitive dissonance for New Yorkers who lived through the urban decay of the ’70s and ’80s. That’s largely because New York has a “right to shelter law” on the books. A survey on one night in January found 76,501 homeless, an increase of 4.1 percent from 2016, and a little less than the 1 percent of the city’s population. But only 3,936 were sleeping on the streets — 72,565 were in shelters.

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) annual assessment report to Congress for 2017 found that total homelessness in the U.S. increased for the first time since 2010. The one-night survey, involving tens of thousands of volunteers in some 3,000 cities and counties, counted 553,742 homeless people, an increase of 0.7 percent since the 2016 count. Overall, 360,867 people were located in transitional housing and emergency shelters while 192,875 were in unsheltered locations.

We have to expect every humanitarian crisis that virtually vanished from 2009 through 2016 to become the very worst thing imaginable now, because the occupant of the White House doesn’t have a (D) after his name.

I missed this article and the articles about the misery index for the last 8 years. Glad to see the homeless are a priority to the media again.

Meanwhile home ownership is on a steady upward trend from its historic low in Q2 of 2016 (after a sharp drop that started in 2004). With the improving economy and steadily low Unemployment, there's no reason to think home ownership should not increase.

But that doesn't sell headlines and it's not #NeverTrump approved.

The homeless problem in NYC is bad, but it's been getting worse for the past few years, and it has nothing to do with the President, and everything to do with our pathetic local leaders.

When refugees come in, they are given a home, no? Why don’t we take care of our own first?

Good for those homeless people. I jealous of their freedom. The entire world is their oyster.

Allow chronic mentally ill people to not take medications and be surprised by the result.
