Three Oklahoma teenagers were killed last week when they broke into a house and were met by a homeowner with an AR15. Now the grandfather of one of the teenagers is speaking out about his grandson’s death.

According to KTUL-TV, Leroy Schumacher, grandfather of 17-year-old Jacob Redfearn, believes the death of Redfearn was unjustified because the homeowner’s AR15 gave him an unfair advantage over the three burglars.

quote:

Speaking to KTUL, Schumacher acknowledged that breaking into a house was “stupid,” but death was not the appropriate consequence.

“What these three boys did was stupid,” Schumacher said. “They knew they could be punished for it but they did not deserve to die.”

“Brass knuckles against an AR-15? C’mon. Who was afraid for their life?” Schumacher said.

The homeowner who pulled the trigger has not been charged with any crimes because police say he acted in self-defense. But Schumacher reinterated his belief that the consequences literally did not fit the crime.

“There’s got to be a limit to that law, I mean he shot all three of them — there was no need for that,” he told KTUL.

In addition to Redfearn, 19-year old Maxwell Cook and 16-year old Jake Woodruff were also shot and killed in the home invasion. Getaway driver, 21-year-old Elizabeth Rodriguez, was uninjured but later arrested and charged with three counts of first-degree murder, one count of first-degree burglary and one count of second-degree burglary.

I get that the guy is emotional after an traumatic event like this happening to relatives but come on, the whole point of having a gun in Home defense is to level the playing field, particularly when it’s 3 vs 1. AR-15 is designed for this exact scenario.

This is the kind of crap people starting thinking in Britain that leads to homeowners being arrested for defending their property over there. I hope we never fall that far here.

And how's the homeowner supposed to know what kind of weapons these thugs have anyway?

When someone breaks in your house, assume they will kill you. Nothing unfair about laying them down.

Pretty stupid that the getaway driver is charged with first degree murder.

Maybe the grandfather should have taught his grandson not to be a criminal and rob people.

This shows the mentality of many stupid people these days.. blame everyone else for their own problems.

Nope. Not stupid. If you help criminals break into houses you should be just as liable for whatever the outcome is. It wasn’t like they tricked her, she knew what they were doing.

True, but it's still a good topic for discussion.

Did not realize it was a year old just saw April 2nd on it. With the way AR15s are demonized though it’s still a good example of why they are still ideal for Home defense situations like this.

And I bet libs will still try this argument that somehow the homeowner owes some imaginary level of fairness to people intent on injuring him or his property. BS

Three against one is unfair. The AR15 evened the odds

The average home invasion entails 3 perpetrators. The AR15 is perfect for that scenario.

Brass knuckles can be very deadly and more people are killed by beating beaten to death than all rifles combined. Even if not killed, serious damage can be inflicted and a hospital stay can run into quite a few dollars.

Could always start with NOT invading some ones home.

Mess with the bull, get the horns. Not a fair fight in that situation either.

No, not level it. To completely annihilate the criminal intruder.

Good. It’s not supposed to be a fair fight. Break into someone’s home and you deserve to die

That kid got exactly what he deserved
