That was the least of that games problems at launch. Most people dont care about the campaign which was god awful and incomplete without any of the outlandish story stuff. The multiplayer was shite too for a long time. at least they learned from their mistakes with 2042..oh wait. No its much

Abby was really awkard character model but a female being op is par far the course in video games. If you like stealth gameplay and can get over the shite story... its some of the best stealth combat I ever played.

As such, the game’s depiction of Gilded Age and Progressive Era politics has resulted in a large amount of online criticism from a group of traditionally white, male, right-wing players.
Not saying it bothered me at all, I just noticed it, especially in comparison to RDR.
It's kinda like making superman black. Nothing wrong with it if that's the best actor to play superman, but we all see what the intent is.

It was the story. Major spoilers following, they removed Joel which was 90% of the issue. I thought he made the game what it was. I do think "wokeness" played a role in where they wanted female protagonists but also two characters with mirrored stories getting revenge for the deaths of their father/father figure. It relegated Joel to being a story prop.
I also hated Abby and hated playing as her. I get that they wanted you to see that she and Ellie were two sides of the same coin but it just ruined the story and the series for me.
What bugged me the most was that early game trailers showed Joel would be part of the story and somewhere along the way that shifted to what we got instead. I do think there was an agenda that led to getting rid of the male protagonist and making it a story with female leads.

I don’t consider that woke. You also weren’t allowed to use weapons in Rhodes for a while. They did have the womens suffrage bits but I’m down with 1st wave feminism. It’s the second wave and especially the 3rd wave where it went off the rails.

They removed the confederate flags from the trailer park in GTA5. Apparently that was worse than beating and murdering hookers and running people over.

They had to really get creative to come up with that. The game was so open though, you could morph into what you wanted.
I remember shooting the suffrage lady in the head, what a "woke" game.
