I think what beer jeep is pointing out is that none of your arguments are routed in the actual economics of

Govt Assistance and Minimum Wage
. Which happens to be the driving force behind the entire conversation, on both sides of the isle.

I was just pointing out that right-wing people hate government assistance and also don't like increasing minimum wage which doesn't make any sense in the end and you can't have it both ways.

It's a common-sense observation and not one that requires a PhD in economics which coincidentally none of you have.

What he was really doing is trying to discredit my entire argument because I couldn't put it within the frame of Economics which I wasn't trying to do

IF you subsidize wages with free shite, then the equilibrium price for wages goes down. Countries have done just fine without a minimum wage. Germany, one of those European socialist paradises, didn't have a minimum wage til 3 years ago. Until they passed a minimum wage, they had the lowest youth unemployment in all of the EU. That has now changed.

well republicans entire platform has been keep the rich people rich and the poor people poor. It's not like they have ever hidden this fact.

Also government assistance isn't a bad thing.

The problems falls on people who have no desire to get off of it and use it as a crutch. I'm sure the majority of people would be okay with the government offering limited assistance while a person works to make a livable wage.

Also it really isn't hard to progress up from minimum wage with minimal effort. Should it be increased to match inflation? Sure probably a little.

Here is the problem which really is a problem. Big business abuses it because they can. Hiring people at minimum wage because its within their rights and maximizes profits.

On the other hand small business absolutely can't afford it if they have any chance to grow. You would essentially be killing small businesses in and effort to punish big business. I'm not ready to make that concession.

Who says you cannot have it both ways?

The US and Earth, in general, are reaching a human saturation point where less is more and people who cannot meet the standard need to be allowed to just end their lines.

If you are capable of critical thinking, there are zero obstacles in your way that won't allow you to be prosperous.

The only people who have true legitimate needs are those who were born with a defection.

I honestly don't care how draconic above sounds, but as someone who had nothing and worked my way up to a lot, I am proof that if you want it bad enough, there is a way.

This is just false. Why do you left-wingers have to lie in order to have a conversation? It's not conducive to honest discourse. I know you are just trolling though. All good.

If you'd have read my earlier post, you'd see that you can have it both ways. It's just difficult to do. And I would also point out that right wing people do not hate government assistance, they more so believe it needs to be in the correct circumstances and used to actually benefit society, not just be a free meal ticket.

There is nothing in your argument that is common sense. You HAVE to examine the economics of the situation to truly understand why minimum wage is a bad policy and you have to understand the economics to understand why prolonged government assistance is a bad.

Also, PhD in economics? Maybe not. Master's? MAybe so...

Not being able (or trying) to put your argument into the context of the economics DOES discredit your argument being as it is an economic issue.

Well for one a better understanding of the economic principles that you clearly do not comprehend.

I've hashed it out numerous times for you, dolt. Go fricking read my other posts.

But you certainly aren't going to score any points by simply saying "take an economics course."

Well, normally if you want to discuss a topic, even a tiny bit of understanding on the subject at hand would be preferable. And since your post in this thread as well as numerous other threads (such as the one this was based off of) leads myself and everyone else here to believe that you don't have a single ounce of understanding of even the most basic of economic principles.

Wrong. Unions use the minimum wage as a baseline for their entry-level union employees. If the national MW were raised to $15/hr, the unions will immediately say that you can’t pay an apprentice welder or starting electrician or factory employee the same or only a few dollars more than a cashier or busboy. They’ll demand that their people get commensurate raises as well.

My 16 year old brother makes $10.50 as a cart boy at a grocery store.

Tell me again how they are abusing minimum wage to maximize profits. Pushing carts from the parking lot to the cart area inside is absolutely as minimum wage of a job as you can go. Yet he makes several dollars more.

Why is that?

Yep and I'm sure every big business in the US follows that same model as the one example you gave.

I mean, I've seen McDonald's, Wendy's, and Burger King all advertise $10/hr in the past... Not sure what they offer today.
