they seriously do think flipping burgers at mcdonalds or jack in the box is equivalent to a career job and they want to mandate that it pays $35-$50k a year doing it.
that right there is the core of their thought process, a dead end part time job requiring no skill or ambition is what they want to pay competitive wages with the pay scale of a professional college educated career path
I saw someone featured in a story who has worked at McDonalds in Chicago for 26 years and still makes minimum wage. You would think they would've tried something new after almost 3 decades.

Shouldn't that minimum wage then increase with the inflation of shelter, food, and utilities?
Like I said, when that happens, the prices of goods and services increase. The only people who are hurt are those who are part of the middle class.
The poor are still poor. The rich are still rich. The middle class picks up the tab.

if the worker did make better life choices and really all workers made better life choices in and did not want to work a minimum wage job because they were more qualified, then who would be hired to do the job? And if no one was hired to do the job because it was all beneath them then they would have to pay more money for to hire people to do those jobs.
There are no words. Seriously.

If you make minimum wage and are above the age of 18, you are a failure. End of story.
What the hell does that have to do with the fact that minimum wage goes up every 5 to 10 years due to cost of living and inflation. None of you idiots are answering that question or paying any attention to it. You're just throwing out a bunch of right-wing talking points and saying that I don't understand economics.
And again, none of you seem to understand that if all of these people made better decisions that there would be no one to work lower paying jobs. You can insult these people all you want but it takes all kinds and minimum wage goes up to meet inflation and cost of living.

Im sorry you cant understand. Really. So much stupid in here. Simply pointing out that some people made bad life choices and frick those people doesn't address any part of the problem. It's just angry bs and justification for not giving a shite.
This isn't about handouts this is about something that happens to adjust you inflation and cost of living every 5 or 10 years for a very long time. It's still going to happen one way or another. All of you idiots to keep acting like it's some injustice are laughable

In 5 years time, staying at a menial job you'll double your wages.
No one is supposed to live on min wage.
Now a bump to $15\hr will give many of them a permenant vacation

Let's start this from a simple point wish you can follow along:
- I never said anything about 15 per hour. Not once. Only you and all of the idiot right wing, jackass posters of this site keep going on about it.
- minimum wage goes up every 5 to 10 years to meet a livable wage whether or not it's a sustained livable wage is irrelevant.
- I don't even know what you were supposed to have meant with your last sentence but I'm just going to assume it is as off bases the rest and move on.

The idea that minimum wage should be able to support a family might be one of the biggest loads of shite the Democratic Party is pushing. Don’t have kids if you only make minimum and if you make minimum past high school you are might as well just give up cause you fricked up a long time ago

No one is saying that you need to support a family with minimum wage. At least I never did. And whether or not someone f***** up or should give up in your eyes doesn't change the fact that minimum wage goes up all of the time. The fact that you mouth breathers are so surprised by this is absolutely laughable. I know you guys are big fans of the memory hole but try to pay attention to history.

Minimum wage was never meant to be a livable wage.
The proper thing to do would be subsidizing low skill, lazy workers instead of raising the minimum wage. Include training and education as part of their benefit package

Yep, the min wage is paid by companies that usually have very low margins. Lefties think the increase will come from profits, but that's not the case. That price increase is passed on to consumers.

You would agree that what these people lack isn't so much the amount of money, but that money's purchasing power, correct?
In your view, how is purchasing power created?
Posted on 2/13/18 at 2:10 am to RogerTheShrubber
It's just mind-numbing. What? You mean the price of goods and services will increase and disproportionatly affecting poor people?
And this in tandem with less hours worked post wage increase (see Seattle) acts as a double whammy that puts those whom make minimum wage in a worse spot than they were before.
But hey. It's just basic economics. Who has time for facts when you have things like "muh feelings"
