You’re not completely wrong, but you’re painting anyone complaining about not receiving pay with the broad brush of being ill prepared for not receiving pay. Just because I hate working for free, doesn’t mean I’m not prepared.

You're not working for free. You're just working for a large company with a dysfunctional accounting department.

Thanks for the answer.

What nonessential functions do you see as endangering the public because of the temporary "shut down"?

None. All the public safety personnel are at work.

All GOV projects, that need oversight are shut down. Can’t even get into my normal site, it is shut down.

Thanks for the answer.

So the projects are continuing...but the "oversight" people are on paid vacation?

What function does your "normal site" conduct?

And that is horseshite 100%. And I don't mean that as it won't happen, I mean it's horseshite that your pay will get taxed to hell.

You're making my point.
If it's functioning with no GOV employees....maybe they're not needed?
Again...you're conflating eliminating nonessential employees with eliminating whole departments...i.,e. "You want to eliminate NASA?"

Is a guy responsible for the upkeep of an important server essential or unessential? It may run for weeks or longer without him.. but it may go down on day 3. I'd call him essential.

Obviously I would agree that our government could downsize and still operate just fine.. offices could do better at prioritization, develop better workflows, etc. I'm all for shrinking most budgets by 1% a year for a decade of two.

Tests rocket engines.

This facility produces the rockets, but the work is incremental, and the companies here already got paid $X to produce Y, so they’re just functioning as ‘normal’.

Each company has quality and safety oversight. Production runs on predetermined schedule and budget, engine testing and overall project management is run by NASA test engineers or otherwise, and they’re on vacation. I’m hustling so I don’t go on LWOP, and I’ve already missed a paycheck...I contacted my last engineering firm when this started, so I picked up work through them as well. Turned that in last night. Once it goes through the PE for review I hope I get more...

And if that happened, someone would be brought in. Do you actually expect someone to believe they wouldn't be on call?
When the important server is not having a problem, what is this guy doing...hanging around waiting for a problem, or is he on call?

Again...your scenario conflates the anomaly for the norm.

So far, how many essential testing functions would you guess you are behind so far? How have the effects of this manifested themselves?

I’d guess some Army rocket engines are falling behind, some commercial engines aren’t getting tested, not sure if they’re letting Rolls test jet engines or not...since there’re no emergency personnel. I guess planning for future production and testing has stopped.

You need less than 10 dem senators to walk into the senate and say they agree to support a bill already sitting in the senate, that the president will sign, and it will reopen government. Today.

It will end an impasse over 5.7 billion dollars. 5.7 billion. It’s not even because of the money because they drew up another bill in the house giving away 12 billion to foreign countries for their corrupt leadership to steal (aid).

Less than 10. Less than 10 people of just one entity of the legislature is holding up a funding bill that will reopen government.

And they sit there with their arms crossed.

Maybe you are right. Maybe the right thing would be to make necessary layoffs to government employees.

While that's all well and good, I would imagine 75%, if not more, of Americans would have serious problems if they missed a monthly check.

If only you knew how many Republicans rely on SNAP and other assistance programs in small rural southern towns.

Most people who get assistance actually need it. Plenty of working people need the assistance to make ends meet.
