Looks like they deleted stars from each level of the scale (though a considerably higher percentage of one-star ratings were deleted).

They increased the 5 star ratings and decreased everything below 3 stars

No they didn't. The 5 star ratings decreased by 230.

I suspect they just eliminated all of the recent ratings after the distribution changed dramatically. That would probably be the fairest way to do it.

It's especially ironic coming from the poster who made this thread:

Amazon's user review system is worthless
quote:

Thanks to 4000 Chinese workers making $2 a day to boost reviews on amazon to push shitty products to the top of the category.
quote:

The #1 review for years was about 6 paragraphs long and loaded with what appeared to be legitimate info and has now been completely removed by amazon.

All lies.

Eta wake up people! You've been deceived!
Those are just a few of his snippets from the thread. Apparently the legitimacy and purpose of the review is only important in certain situations. It's deceptive and obviously fake if he doesn't like it, but it's also deception and censorship if he likes the reviews even if they are faked.

I am surprised by that, and I have an iPhone so I can't verify, but why does that matter? Does that make a fake review less fake?

My review was deleted. I put it back up

The fact Google has appointed someone to sit and delete reviews for an app is amazing.

Eta 840 votes now. going to break 1000 upvotes within the hour

I'm glad you're here whining because they're running their company as they see fit.

You should start another thread to bitch about Amazon getting rid of bullshite reviews, too.

Well you were upset about Amazon's ratings so your quite hypocritical regarding such ratings.

They probably just stopped allowing ratings after a certain time once they believed the ratings were invalid.

And I don't understand why you can so much, but I really don't understand why you can't see why Google would do this. They have a vested interest in the validity of these ratings. Just like Netflix and Amazon have tried to address their ratings systems too. Otherwise, they wouldn't have one in the first place.
