As a criminal investigator for a mid size metropolitan department, I will tell you that license plate readers are a valuable tool for many criminal investigations.

Once a witness or surveillance camera captures a make, model, and color of the suspect vehicle, we cross reference the same with nearby LPR’s leading to positive suspect identification.

From there, other sources and methods can be used to ultimately identify, surveil, and apprehend the target.

These databases save countless man hours and dedicated resources to solve crimes quickly. Burglars, armed robbers, murders, and the likes of which we all agree that need to be quickly removed have been caught thanks to the break these databases provide.

To the average law abiding citizen, no one cares about your movements.

To those in opposition, pick your poison. If you don’t like their use, don’t come complaining when you are a victim and want swift justice.

well let's see who picked up the drop box ballots

You have to believe that if they had a camera honed in on Ruby's desk and the ballot counting room, they have the plate number of the vehicle that delivered the mystery ballots, and with this nugget of info provided by the OP, know where they came from.

No surprise a government agent is a fan of them.

This pairs nicely with the chips they just implanted under the guise of vaccine.

Maybe that’s why they are putting them everywhere.

Shot spot still only in certain neighborhoods though. Is that racist or prudent?

Can these cameras see who shoots at them?

I have seen several different looking types around. Some mounted on red lights some on polls next to intersections and some on overpasses.

Google what they look like and check it out for yourself.

They are much more widespread than I would have imagined.

You mean when a criminal is arrested now and then, then given a slap on the wrist and another probation, and put back on the street. That swift justice?

We don't need more tools for solving crime, we need more prisons and electric chairs.

Offer the crackheads $5 a piece for the cameras.

Wonder how well they work, if a smart criminal trades car tags with his neighbor?

It’s a pretty cool solution for neighborhoods. A tool that can be weaponized and abused in the hands of government.

Agree.

I’d feel better if this info could only accessed via subpoena, but you saw folks will lie on them and judges will approve anything.

I understand your call for needing a subpoena but I disagree. Downvote away, but I think all this should be just be open access on the web. There is not expectation of privacy on a public road. Open it up to everyone. Post a sign that cars are monitored if makes you feel better.

Don't restrict it to just government, because that way leads to abuse.

Disarming all citizens would make your job safer and easier, too, wouldn't it?

Or simply use temporary tags in perpetuity.

We have some cameras around here at key choke-points, but the objects mounted by the red lights here are vehicle sensors that manage the red light timing.

That is why car jackings are up. Steal a car, do a crime, dump the car.

This is the road to hell. This is hell.

Real-time tracking of all citizens, in addition to what they can do with phones.

No, the Government can’t protect everyone. Violent criminals are equally kept at bay when they fear their victims.

Don’t be obtuse.
