Garland does not think attacking fed buildings is terrorism as long as it is done at night

Notable exchange btwn Sen. Hawley and Garland — Hawley asks if attacking courthouses is domestic extremism/terrorism, re: Portland. Garland draws a line between attacking federal property at night/generally and, in a clear nod to Jan. 6, doing it to stop judges from hearing cases

And this guy was hailed as a moderate SCOTUS nomination.

The attempt to differentiate the two is hilarious. Folks this country is a sham. We are not free. Liberty does not exist. Step out of line and you will be squashed like a bug.

Oh - so it’s ok as long as it’s for certain things and at certain times.

Typical libs. It’s another way to evaluate if it benefits them before deciding if they are against it.

They’re both technically terrorism

But one is because the state keeps allowing cops who F their job up face no repercussions

The other is because Congress was formalizing the results of the election

The level of political hackishness required to make such a comparison should be enough to disqualify him.

Please point out how that applies to Oregon or the Portland PD.

Comparing the two should draw serious questions about his ability to make rational decisions... it will not because they need 1/6/21 to be known on the same level as OKC and 9/11, so they will push the narrative...

The way it sounded to me was "straight, white, protestants will have to prove they are not white supremacists"...

Anyone with an eyeball and two brain cells can see it's nowhere near the levels of either event. This shouldn't be the hill they triple down on, but, we never accused them of being smart.

Their lemmings are dumb and lap it all up... the political operatives behind the charade are very smart... they are wagging the dog at this point...

Sen. Lindsey Graham, a South Carolina Republican, led off his questioning of Garland by asking the nominee if he would “promise to defend the Portland courthouse against anarchists.”

“Any attack on a federal building or damage to a federal building violates federal statutes and those who do it will be prosecuted,” Garland responded.

Later in the hearing, Sen. Josh Hawley, a Republican from Missouri, again pressed Garland on Portland and other cities where demonstrations have centered around federal buildings.

“Do you regard assaults on federal courthouses or other federal properties as acts of domestic extremism or domestic terrorism?” Hawley asked.

In his answer, Garland appeared to draw a distinction between the protesters in places like Portland and those that sought to disrupt the counting of electoral votes at the Jan. 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol.

“An attack on a courthouse while in operation, trying to prevent judges from trying cases, that plainly is domestic extremism, domestic terrorism,” Garland said. “An attack simply on a government property at night or under other circumstances is a clear crime, and a serious one, and should be punished.”

“Both are criminal,” Garland added, “but one is a core attack on our democratic institutions.”

So we can go back to the Capitol, so long as the sun's gone down?
