NASDAQ Essential Retail

quote:

"Due to the products we carry that enable and enhance our customers' experience in working from home," reads the memo, "we believe GameStop is classified as essential retail and therefore is able to remain open during this time," the memo says. The document then asks law enforcement officers to call GameStop's headquarters if they don't accept this policy.

Now it's well known in video game circles that GameStop has been losing profits over the past 5 years due to rise of electronic video game sales and publishers creating their own launchers.

But this is ridiculously defiant. Do they have the legal right to do this?

They’ve been on their deathbed for a couple years. This is actually a time when their products are in demand. Of course they don’t want to close right now.

The two biggest video games of the Spring both released today, no way they were shutting down.

Well, NY said liquor stores were essential...

I am hoping the sex shops are essential...

So, why not Game Stop?

Because they know if they close...checkmate. Not enough cash flow. Game over (pun intended).

Doom Eternal released today. Final Fantasy VII Remake doesn't release until April 10th.

If gamestop closes, they may never reopen.

Did not know that. My 11yo son has singlehandedly kept them in business then....

I went to gamestop to get a power supply for my Xbox 360 and they didn’t even have it. Couldn’t even order one. Place is garbage. It used to be a good store

Tell that to PA... they said forestry activities were not "life sustaining"...

BTW, I agree with you...

They would have overcharged you anyway.

There is basically a group of folks that go down a checklist and go "yep" "nope" "maybe"...

You should really take a look at PA's checklist of "life sustaining" industry yesterday...
