So I'm at a loss what the "strategy" is here.

You TDS lunatics are fricking retards. 10 year olds could punch a hole in your logic.

Tell us what changed with China's strategy or how the situation evolved.

Ok. Go.
Then explain why Trump is reimbursing China on tariffs.

This is how you mentally condition yourself so that Trump is never "wrong."

The Trump strategy here is surgical

That’s smart trade war economics. If you thought exemptions were weakness, you’re playing checkers in a chess match.
This is all just back-fill. It would've looked smart and surgical - and like an actual plan - if Trump had laid this all out BEFORE HAND. Now, it's all just fumbling around looking for a way to hurt China without hurting the US. And then you come along after the fact and rationalize everything. It's a clown show.
What Trump should have done was get the infrastructure and supply chains in place to have US manufacturing ready to go. Then he should have gotten his federal budget together and balanced the budget so he doesn't have to go around begging countries for money that he just fricked in the arse with tariffs. And THEN he should have addressed any egregious trade imbalances in a "surgical" and methodical way.
As it stands, he just looks like he has no idea what the shite he's doing and what the consequences might be. He's just casting about and flopping around like a fish on the dock. AKA, a clown show.

You want him to show all of his cards before starting negotiations?

Only to people who have never participated in a negotiation. He got over 70 countries to come to the table in less than 4 days and you idiots think he looks like he has no idea? Absolutely insane.

The Art of the Deal
Trump says the exemption is retroactive to April 5. Duties since April 5 on excluded chips will be reimbursed.

No. I never said that. I didn't even imply it.

I have negotiated many deals. I'm known to be rather good at it.

Getting to the table is not negotiating, it's just getting to the table. You're going to have to wait and see how he fumbles around with all those 70 countries before you can come back and cover for him. I suspect most of that shite will be dropped.

Trump was going to have to concede on a few things otherwise it would've eviscerated US companies. It also will take a long time to build these tech manufacturers in the US.

I see you've never negotiated a deal before.
My advice to you if you ever plan to is to get all your shite together BEFORE you enter the negotiations. Otherwise you can come off looking like a clown who doesn't know what he wants, and can't apply any leverage.

I'll tell you why, it's our ridiculous political system that we run here.
If he loses the House in the midterms next year, he's done. No more pursuing his agenda. So he's got to try to get everything done in the first two years. But it's not so simple...
Any pain his policies might bring have to be over with before next summer. If not, the people going to the polls for midterm elections will only remember the pain, and thus will vote the Republicans out. He seems to be trying to get everything done before this summer, so that by next, no one will remember the pain the policies caused, and he may then keep the majority in both houses. If he does, then he may be able to even further his agenda in 2027 and 2028.
But I suspect the turmoil he's going to cause will last right on through to November 2026 - at least, and the Republicans will lose the House.
Not that I think that's how it should go, but that's how I think it will probably go. There's no doubt that we need to balance the federal budget, and equally no doubt that we need to restructure our trade deal with China. It's just that those two things together will cause the pain to which tDonald has already referred.

Only people who are poor at negotiating would not be calling out giving up part of your leverage, and getting nothing in return.
The exemptions and rebates have nothing to do with China and everything to do with placing a hemostatic patch on the wound to stop hemorrhaging political capital.
Pressuring China into fair trade is IMO the crown jewel of this administrations agenda. The problem is that it several ways it has been amateur hour. Anyone that thought otherwise should have seen it the minute the EO was signed that eliminated the de minimus in less than 24 hours. Whoever wrote that had no idea what they were doing and it has to be retracted the next day. This was a poor way to start a trade war.
Again, I am all for forcing fair trade with China but their is no way Beijing doesn't see the exemptions and rebates as a crack in resolve. If you think that is a good negotiation strategy then I don't know what to tell you.

Leverage is exactly what Trump is using here. Good Lord. You have clearly never negotiated anything of importance. You don’t understand the absolute basics of what is happening. If you do, then your TDS is making you make these stupid statements.
