Hospitals, Dr. offices, dentists, ect. don't stock pile because everything medical has an artificially short expiration date on it. N95 masks don't go bad. Tongue depressors, cotton balls, gloves, etc. don't go bad but they get relatively short expiration dates.

So the question becomes, what regulations dictate they have such dates, who passed those and why do they exist at all?

You are asking people on a Louisiana message board to donate precious masks to North Carolina hospitals

If you didn't notice, Louisiana is one of the hardest hit states right now.

If people had masks to give, I bet they'd be giving them to the hospitals in their local communities where their friends and families would be working

well, there a few posters who live in my area...

in part, my post was to bring news that even though we don't have many cases in our state, our hospitials are struggling with the issue

I just spoke to Lowes manager, he says their mask orders are being redirected by FEMA "We won't be getting in the store anytime soon"

N95 masks do have an expiration date, though I would expect the shelf life could be extended

We had the n95 mask at work. Two weeks ago, the fastenal machines were emptied by an employee in the overnight and it didnt get restocked. They never bothered to use them in work duties as those particular respirators are voluntary use.

amazing that we did not stockpile these types of items. It absolutely was foreseeable that we would have a viral pandemic that attacks the respiratory system.

Our president says nobody could have ever possibly imagined this. Apparently there was no reason to be more ready than we were, because, despite a history of respiratory pandemics, it was beyond human comprehension that we would have another one.

why this is getting downvoted is beyond me are we so jacked up that we are snarky about a hospital asking for help?

Expiration dates on "hardware" are just a means of jacking up the price and volume of those supplies. The ones coming out of government warehouses are guaranteed to be 90% "expired" but they will be used anyway, and when that is reported, someone will get his arse kicked royally for not having spent enough money on replacements from the "approved supplier".

Absolutely. I remember when Obama was in office and multiple hospitals across the countries were running critically low on essential supplies and 20% of Americans were basically on home lockdown. Those were rough days.

probably true, and to be honest, this friend is a liberal millennial who hates Trump...

but he's still an ok guy..

none of that matters...I just want to help because we're talking about people who serve the sick
I figured as much I know the general type from there.

I am not flaming you but you are on a sports message forum asking for masks for a hospital.
