The threat of ‘The Big One’ has long loomed over the Pacific Northwest, where several major cities from Vancouver down to northern California are cradled by the 620-mile-long Cascadia Subduction Zone. The geological record shows the area is due for a major earthquake, which would likely be followed by a massive tsunami. Now, a new study has confirmed the region just off the coast of Washington has the ingredients for a megaquake

The only way to fix it is to flush it all away

Studied up on this one for years. Fascinating shite because the Cascadia subduction zone as the volcanoes like Ranier are rarely talked about.

I'll allow it because while whether it will happen isn't political..........the implications of it happening are.

I mean, if we get a big one on the west coast.........and I mean.......a fricking BIG one that substantially harms major economic centers or, in the extreme, literally reshapes the coast.........that's gonna have significant political implications.

yep, because the affected states will want an amount of money from the rest of the states that will make hurricane recovery cost look like nothing

It probably would be an amount that is impossible to deliver.

How significantly could it actually reshape the coast beyond some rock slides? Could it calve/slough large patches of ocean side mountains into the Pacific?
