Because he was in the middle of a campaign in 2024. And during a campaign, politicians will often say many, many things that they know are not true or know that can't happen just to gain votes.

The "releasing of the files" is all a setup.
If Trump orders files released at least one document will be a contempt of court. All the need is one page released that a judge has under seal. Gj testimony, ongoing investigation, victim ID, congressional closed door testimony, under congressional redaction from their releases, sealed from the FL case...
It is a trap for contempt of court or congress if they win the mid-terms they will impeach on.
Granted he can throw his weight behind it and Bondi is an idiot. But it can't come from the executive (DOJ) under his explicit orders because that is the trap.
Remember there are four caches one at the doj there was under the control of comey's daughter for about 4 years, the files from the state of Florida, everything Congress has and has been releasing redacted, and private files such as dershowitz

The Epstein files are a red herring at this point. Epstein was Mossad. We know this. The US Gov will never expose Israel. EVER.
I'm not saying we should just forget about it, and that we shouldn't be pissed. But I'm saying that they're never going to show us the truth as long as there is any physical evidence connecting it to Israel, and that it's being used as a political football at this point to further divide us (especially on the Right).
