I don't know if DeSantis endorses "Rinos" or not. I'll take your word for it but I sure as shite know this. The Trumpatollah routinely hires and appoints them and when he does, the Shiite MAGA's desperately convince themselves he's playing intergalactic chess and trying to keep his enemies closer.
And to your second point. We're all lucky it worked out for Ronald Reagan. What a disaster that could've been.
