First female ref ever n Super Bowl

If she earned the right, go for it. She can screw up calls as good as any man, I am sure of it.

If it is the same one I saw over this last weekend, she was timid and waited for the other refs before she would make the call.

She's been a ref for a few years now and all NFL refs are graded. If they chose her, she probably grades well. I don't think the NFL would allow her to officiate the Super Bowl if she wasn't actually doing well, despite any desire to virtue signal, because they don't want to risk officiating being the main story of the game.

Being a FB referee is not as difficult as being a baseball umpire who must rotate to home plate and call balls and strikes.
MLB has tried several women umps in spring ball and they all fail because they grade so poorly with ball/strike calls. Females have a hard time judging space and speed and it's not easy to tell whether a 90 mph slider hit the corner or was one inch outside.
The space/speed problem is also why women can qualify to fly bombers in the AF but not high speed fighters. This is also why the woman driver in front of you will not turn right on red if she sees a car to her left even if it's a half mile away going 30.
