I think states can best handle disasters with federal financial assistance. Anybody remember FEMA sending electric (meaning you plug them in) chainsaws to North Carolina?

The next flood or hurricane I live through will be in the double digits, and we're not done repairing our house from the last one in September. FEMA has never been involved, not one dime, visit, or even a simple phone call.
They can cancel the entire department as far as I'm concerned and I've helped countless people recover from distruction you can't even wrap your mind around.
They burn our tax dollars and get in the way. Red cross can kick rocks too. I'll help pull my neighbors up from thier boot straps myself thank you very much.

I took the time to watch his testimony. He was very professional and clearly in favor of shifting much more responsibility to the states.
Of course, it's the President's prerogative to fire his appointees, but what did Hamilton do to deserve being humiliated by being escorted out?
