The problem with this statute is going the be the word "harasses"

If it's anything like how ADA's treat harassment in the Domestic Assault cases they'll stretch that for their own advantage until someone is forced to pay $25K to appeal a conviction to the State Supreme Court.

If a Man drive buy his former marital residence he's harassing. If his soon to be ex-wife calls him a deadbeat on Facebook, that's not harassment.

ADA's will get to yield this statute however THEY feel is appropriate.

It says harass OR follow OR "disrupt their quote enjoyment". Saying anything is what it says.

Quit lying. People are upset because it seems to overstep the 1A and with every little law like this the slippery slope gets steeper.

No one gives an F if it benefits Jews or not.

One of the first comments was about saggy pants. How many Jews walk around with saggy pants?

None of that backs up your previous claim that this board is upset about the law because it benefits Jews.

there is no question that this board harbors at share of antisemites, but I wonder if either of you read the bill in its entirety.

It does contain some provisions specific to the Jewish religion.

Examples? Are Jewish people the only religion that has easily recognizable religious garments?

I guess Muslims wearing a hijab doesn't count IYO because you and andyj are trying to make this all about Jews.

That won't be enforced. Go stand by a Jewish neighborhood with your cross and you will definitely get the derisive comments. But you won't get the hate crime.

We don’t find this offensive to the point of demanding action on our behalf by the state

so, you did not bother to read the statute. Unsurprising. section 806..13(2)(b)

by citing you to specific statutory language dealing with Jews? You are a strange duck.

Why are so many people ignoring this part of the bill?:

quote:

A person who distributes pamphlets, flyers, or other materials, whether for commercial or noncommercial purposes, in a public place, including outside a private residence, and such materials discarded by recipients, leads to littering, commits a misdemeanor of the first degree,

It says if a guy hands you a flier and you throw it on the ground, the other guy gets charged with misdemeanor littering. Kind of annoying, but not a big deal right? Well, keep reading:

quote:

If a violation of sub-subparagraph a. involves material that evidences religious or ethnic animus, including content described in s. 806.13(2)(b), the offense is reclassified as a felony of the third degree

If the flier is an invite to a party, it's a misdemeanor. However, if the flier says "Muslims suck" then you are charged with a felony.

100% unconstitutional. There is no way SCOTUS lets it stand. Even the liberal members won't like it and I can see it getting overturned 9-0.

Florida is a very diverse State. This isn’t about someone wearing pants too big for them. This is about people wearing clothes often associated with their culture or religion. Pan African, Jamaican, etc

Posters have to be more responsible here. Anyone claiming this is about loose pants etc is no better than the fake news we find with CNN and MSNBC.
I know how diversified Florida is.

From being asked by an 88 year old in Publix to get an item from a shelf. To every culture and ethnicity, I can think of in Florida.

This doesn't mean a law should be created for the one millionth chance some ignorant person stares at a muslim woman or dot indian and says something. Or dares to say something when people suddenly speak spanish and point at someone.

You cannot fix ignorance this way, and you shouldn't put the ignorant in jail or fine them. All of Bama would be locked up. No, but seriously.

The tv is censored. The internet is censored. The radio is censored. They are worried about pamphlets though. There must be some devastating information
