Jesus you are a moron. Let’s see, if a business saves 20% by manufacturing overseas but the tariff is 25% then what would the smart business man do? He would move the manufacturing back to the United States. Costs less and less lag time/transportation costs. Save 5% plus he has a more reliable supply chain. How hard is this to grasp for a small town ambulance chaser?

Do you think it’s free to build new manufacturing plants in the United States? Because your math says you think it’s free

And for many, they’re likely saving much more than 20% by manufacturing overseas

and put it where? what are we manufacturing? coathangers? widgets? windows? microchips? you realize it takes years to build a structure like this, or refurbish an existing one for a new process, right? much less populate it with whatever machinery is required and pay american workers a living wage

Anyone worried about unemployment due to tariffs should be enthusiastic supporters of ICE deporting illegals and opening up more employment opportunities.

Yes.

So?

You have to start somewhere, sometime.

It astounds me that people think manufacturing is going to come back in 6 months.

Didn't quite a few manufacturers promise trillions of dollars in US investments?

Yet despite the deportations there are more job seekers than available jobs. Maybe keep the deportations and get rid of the shite trade policies. Crazy thought.

Then how will we bring manufacturing back to the US, if prices don't increase, which is the stated goal of tariffs by Bessent? Isn't the higher prices making domestic manufacturing palatable/profitable the backbone of that policy?

Is this some sort of gotcha?

It would irresponsible for any business leader to do what you all are suggesting. They moved operations overseas to save a ton of money. In most cases, far more than the 20% quoted earlier.

To move back onshore is an incredible undertaking, not only a years-long project to build new manufacturing in the US, but also disrupting the existing product road map (or equivalent depending on the industry), and it could cost more than 3-4 years of revenue.

That’s incredibly expensive and disruptive. And it will take longer than 3-4 years to get this done, and by then a new president will be in the White House and there’s a chance the tariffs will be eliminated, and the company is caught with their pants down.

Good luck with that message the next election.

Its not a political observation...

If you want lower rates, then the fed is going to need to be convinced by economic data... mainly demand destruction, layoffs, deflation

It was business leaders and politicians who fricked the American people when the moved it all out.

I don't care how long it takes.
