She may have good intentions but trump and team absolutely used this to distract the base form reality of them wanting to round people up without due process despite court orders....

I don't care if they stay I care we follow the laws of our great country.

It's a tragedy her daughter was killed, it also happened a couple years ago and isn't at all related to the Garcia case....

Shameful when either side does it. Shows just out emotionally irrational most of the political base is in this country. It's why the fathers warned against tyranny of the majority

Republicans tried the nice guy approach for decades. It got them nowhere.

Trump changed all that and went to the mutually assured destruction model.

You nuke us, we nuke you.

I wish is didn't have to be this way but like I said, the rational nice guy approach was tried.

Yup. This is how we ended up with The Patriot Act and Obamacare. “Our guy is awesome, they won’t do anything wrong” is silly when we get a new admin every 4/8 years.

The Founders couldn’t have imagined freaks like you existing. Existential times call for existential measures.

Define the specific of what you would objectively call " public interest" as it applies to freedom of the press. Would this apply also to print outlets that you find objectionable on what they choose to write and how they write?

Well they are both illegals living in Maryland allowed to cause terror in their communities. I'd argue they actually have a good deal to do with each other.

Trump is doing this because you wanted it this way...not necessarily because he believes it or advocates for it.

I have been saying for years now, the quickest way to fix the media is to have the Congress and/or the FCC license the use of the word "NEWS". Place specific definitions/requirements on broadcast and print media ability to report under the title or publication of "NEWS".

We would see an immediate shattering shift in how news is reported and people will be shocked at how much of what they receive now is misinformation, disinformation, paid for propaganda and advertising being reported as news

Let congress pick and choose what is news or not? What could possibly go wrong!?

Some of yall sound like right-wing versions of Taylor Lorenz.

No. Congress would not pick and choose the news. Very simply, they could however place guidelines and guardrails on what is reported as news.

News is facts! Who what when where and how. Journalist at one time had a thing called journalistic integrity that provided the public with some confidence that information they received through media news was reliable and factual. That is no longer how the media industry works.

Eliminate opinions from being reported, eliminate one side of a story and mandate that equal time must be provided if facts were not reported that could easily have been obtained. Etc

And who will get to determin what is/isn't "facts"? Who will enforce it? I bet these people would be available.

Or maybe...
