He wasn't just a sitting congressman he was on the HPSCI (House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence). The FBI knew about the whole Chinese spy ring for a long time. Including Dianne Feinstein's Chinese driver of 30 years... It's not a coincidence all this happened after his term limit to sit on HPSCI was up.

They weren't seizing his phones to investigate them. They were seizing his phones so they could control the data. This is more along the lines of Anthony Weiner and Hunter Biden laptop damage control.

do they have a term limit? nancy pelosi knew about his relationship with fang fang and refused to take him off that committee. it wasn't until the republicans took over and they removed him.

Eric Swalwell started his tenure on the HPSCI in January 2015 and officially ended his service on the committee in January 2023.
But they can grant waivers to extend their tenure and they were in the process of doing that for Swalwell, but McCarthy blocked it.

Only issue would be if he had an Apple product. The cheapest iPhone is like 200-500 dollars depending on carrier and if it is from a prepaid carrier. Then you have to remember your passwords and go through the hoops of recovering your account without your previous device to get all your contacts and mail settings. Then you have to remember all those phone numbers. It is not like people still use a rolodex.
Android would be dirt cheap, and I don't know if if Google has gotten as security heavy as Apple when it comes to recovering your account.
2FA can be a real bitch if you don't have the right devices nearby.
But if he kept his chopstick out of Bang Bang and anything with a vag, he wouldn't be in this trouble.
