Really does seem like what's been said is true. The Russians are sowing seeds of doubt in the west, and here we are, at each other's throats about who did what and when.

This is exactly right.
The dirt on Trump by Russians in 2016 via the Ukraine was too enticing for Alexandra Chalupa to deny. The dossier was born and yep, and as you say, "here we are".
If it wasn't Trump it would have been Ted Cruz or Rubio.
