Everything bad in this world started off as a "good idea"

Humans by nature, are going to naturally take the path of least resistance and choose the idea that "feels most good". This is just in our DNA and dates back to Eden.
All of everything bad in our country was once considered a "well intentioned" idea by many
A few examples:
Unions
1965 Immigration Act
NFA and ATF acts
Patriot Act
Roe v Wade
Federal Reserve Act
16th, 17th Ammendments
Woodrow Wilson Administrative State
Social Security
Great Society
Obamacare
Covid lock downs
Masks
mRNA Vaccines
The only hope that a civilization can have to live in freedom and maintain their sovereignty is either with a truly benevolent dictator, or with a completely decentralized Republic with an extreme amount of checks and balances, and with everything being hyper local, a system that will keep the political, legal, and business leaders from colluding. However, if not kept in check, these institutions will eventually figure out how to join forces and succumb to corruption (over time, this is inevitable).
While we always have to be aware and alert of the corrupt leaders who will try to dominate us. It is really, "we the people", who we need to watch out for the most. Because we will dig our own grave much faster than they could ever imagine.

Kansas inventing basketball eventually led to the WNBA
That is a particularly tough one to swallow

I can't go along with Obamacare. Anyone with half a brain knew it was an actuarial death spiral even before it went live on Day 1. Not to mention the John Roberts thing calling it a tax when the bill for it explicitly said it wasn't a tax. There was nothing well intentioned with that thing being shoved down our throats with bribes and Cornhusker kickbacks littered throughout.

A lot of the things you listed were never good ideas for any rational person.

It can be argued that more than half the items on your list were always Trojan Horses intended to expand the state/gain greater control. Therefore, they weren't actually good ideas. They were just framed to appear as good ideas, but were always intended to screw over US citizens.
I think this is a distinction worth understanding. To the extent this is true, the issue becomes less about good ideas, how many people felt good about these ideas, or good intentions (the true intentions weren't good). It's more important to become educated about the recurring pattern of govt/Wall St/MIC abuses that are not in our best interests.
But knowing is only part of the battle. To the extent people know, but continue to do nothing and abuse the system themselves, not much will change. This speaks a little to your point of most taking the path of least resistance.
Ideally, we not only need to make a better effort to understand what's going on, but we need to become more proactive in developing our own morality/ethics/honor regarding how we act, teach values to our kids, & stand up for truth whenever possible. Consider doctors, for example. If more doctors were not only more aware of the issues w/mRNA vaccines, but willing to speak out like Peter McCullough did (at the risk of his reputation & medical license), the items on the bottom of your list wouldn't be as problematic as they are. Many doctors had doubts, but lacked the courage to speak out-- arguably because honor & integrity are not as important in our society as they perhaps once were.
The more all of us become honorable and develop the courage to act and speak out, the less lies will have the ability to easily flourish as they do now. It may seem a daunting task, but each of us here can make a little difference, and small efforts can build into something more meaningful.

I agree. I think what I mean by "good idea", is it might sound like a "good idea" to a soft headed ignoramus who is either seeking their own personal immediate gratifaction or some sort of pseudo-religous "do-gooder" atonement for something like race or climate based policies.
Anyone properly educated and aware of how the world really works can easily see through all of these "good ideas" and immediately see the direction they will take us.

irrefutable statement
the only thing that works is relying on individual effort and not to expect an elected political entity to remain pure to its inception.
once you have fallible human beings in charge of distributing billions of dollars around they will ALWAYs find some way to siphon off a few crumbs that fall to the wayside.
once those 'crumbs' amount to MILLIONs of dollars - but still considered 'noise level' - the whole idea becomes an INDUSTRY which can enrich itself by creating more 'crumbs' - and ever increasing to the 'TRILLIONS' all the 'good' stuff that can be done with just a 'little more money' to spread around.
It is inevitable.

Proof that we'd all be far better off if the fed's just quit trying to help us.

The road to hell is paved with good intentions.

Somebody convinced somebody it was a good idea. The American people bought it, otherwise there would have been another Civil War.
