Pay attention to the ones that tell you the truth about who's paying for the poll and what metrics they use

the data

Registered voters versus likely voters that's the first thing to look at

the raw numbers of people polled typically 1,600

Their percentages on the demographics and how closely they match up with the demographics of the state that is being polled


Often what isn't in the number because it's private information
shared with who's paying for the poll
how many of the people being polled have already answered a poll?

I've mentioned before when trying to discourage all the attention paid to polls is there's a certain personality type that answers polls and a certain personality type that will not answer polls

people who have studied this kind of have an idea of what that percentage is and it's not huge
not even 10% ,, But it gives a false reading, especially in close races



And thanks to technology which ties whatever phone number is used back to someone's data
voter registration
back to their purchasing history
back to where they live
back to how many people live in the house
back to whether they have a cat or a dog

that info include who is most likely to answer the questions

but the pollsters aren't sharing how weighted their poll is to that bias

And pollsters know this information and have this data and then they sell that data to other pollsters
because there is a financial incentive for a certain result and or to finish the poll as quickly as possible because that's how they make money

And the closer the polls that can be done in a hyper-sensitive election/market
the more likely people are to pay for a poll to be done

I would not be the least bit surprised if some of the larger bets on the presidential race
did commission polls of their own that only they had access to more inside info to help them place the bet
