They should be able to hire whomever they choose. Only a big government progressive would want the government to tell companies who to hire and what to pay them.

How do we know they aren’t being charged? It’s one thing to catch a person that is in violation of immigration policy because all you need to do is physically catch them. It’s another to pour through employment files and find practices that violate the law. Wouldn’t they have gathered evidence from the raid and be in the process of examining it? It’s only been a week.
It's not like ICE showed up and said "let me see your green card". They knew who was there and what the deal was, and in hours, had processed a number of people. The moment one person was processed as an illegal, that's enough to perp walk the management.

To really go after the management, you need to toughen up the laws.
However, the GOP in congress are bought and paid for by big companies who want cheap labor, and the Dems in Congress are bought and paid for by activists who want people to come here "because we care" or some other BS.
There is no chance of this changing anytime soon. So these dog and pony shows will continue.

This isn't some 16 y/o getting a fake ID with the name McLovin; a lot of these forgeries are excellent and actually use Hispanic names. Also, they are accepting the lower offers, but they aren't that much cheaper. For example, taking $9/hr with no benefits instead of $10/hr.

The laws we have are so minimal that it's very easy to let employers off the hook.
This needs to change.
I agree with this 100%. I don't know this situation specifically, but there are reasons employers are getting off easy. They need to make e-verify mandatory, especially over 50 employees. Also, they need the other government agencies to work with employers. There are situations where the State's Dept of Rev & IRS know the SS#'s are not legitimate, but they do not report it to the employer. The employer has no reason to be suspicious, and the employee continues working. Then ICE shows up demanding to review your I-9s, or demanding certain employee's I-9s.

Do you know this is true? Or are you just speculating?

I agree that the employers should be prosecuted IF found to have hired these people knowing they were illegals. I think you have to do an investigation before you charge someone...

So the left wants to prosecute businesses for hiring illegal aliens?
I say go for it.

If they produce a drivers license and a ss card not sure what an employer can do.

not defending the employers here but the only way to make sure you don't hire illegal aliens is to completely discriminate against hispanics and other brown looking people and I'm pretty sure that won't fly, especially in court and the relevant regulatory agencies.
The DOJ has come after companies that try to verify citizenship pretty hard in the past IIRC.

from some article on Fox:
"Bringing criminal charges against companies that illegally hire workers is difficult because prosecutors must prove that the employer did so knowingly, a claim easily rebutted via claims of being duped by fraudulent documentation."
So since our esteemed FBI has established the importance of "intent" in all sorts of prosecutions it sounds easy peasy to get off.
and the owner is a chinese guy in CA

But it still goes back to government failure. It's simple, secure the border and eliminate illegal immigration. The government doesn't do its job and now the guy mowing my lawn is illegal so I get charged with a crime? It makes no sense to charge the citizen with a crime that would not exist were it not for governmental incompetence.

Well here’s a solution, REQUIRE WELFARE RECIPIENTS TO WORK!! If they’re on the taxpayers payroll they should have a job or be placed in a job and I’m sure these low paying jobs would fill up fast considering how many leeches we have

This was bigger than hiring a yardman. You have to file papers to get these jobs. This is why I say there has to be an investigation to find out who to charge with what. If these people used falsified documents to get these jobs then that is one issue. If the employer looked the other way or aided the use of false info that is another.

ICE probably had informants inside the plants. It takes months to go through records. The companies will face criminal charges and civil penalties but it takes time.
The real question is about false social security cards. I believe citizenship is required for a card.
