Nope. these would have been leaked to them by whoever was doing the investigation into the REDSKINS organization. He was simply caught in the crossfire because he's famous and what he said would make news, so they got leaked.
Point is, the NYT was VERY concerned about not just the veracity of Hunter Biden laptop but HOW they were obtained. It wasn't enough that it be true, but for the first time EVER journalists suddenly cared how the information was obtained, not just that it was true and newsworthy.

Completely germaine to their initial investigation, but somebody read them and leaked them to hurt Gruden.
