"The Tesla Phone Pi 5G 2022 is sensibly evaluated at generally $1200 (Expect)." - So basically another expensive phone. Big deal

Tried for my rural spot but not available there yet. Not sure why other than sparsity of inhabitants that would probably even know about. How would starlink get me a wifi signal at my deer camp that barely gets a phone signal? Are you saying the phone is actually connect via satellite? Wouldn't there be delays in speech. Do the Starlink satellites use the Clark orbit?

since you think Bill Gates runs the world and he couldn't make a competitive phone, I doubt Elon will be able to make one.

Bill gates claim to fame is stealing someone else's product and selling it as his own.

Elon musk has actually created many products and services, in many different fields so its not unthinkable that he could create a phone.

Bill gates is the one that thinks Bill gates runs the world. We just think he's trying to run the world.

This is such a comically bad take of the two.....

Can someone explain starlink like I’m 5 ? Can it do phones and Wi-Fi? Where does it connect to the internet?

Starlink phone = phone that could work without cellular network. No monthly bill ( aside from Starlink subscription ).

That's not a bad option if it works and is reliable.

Looks great for internet. Voice not so much if you have to go 44,000 miles round trip from ground to satellite to ground.

Starlinks satellites are low earth orbit, so they are MUCH closer to the earth than dish, DirecTV and other stationary satellites.

This means the time delay to and from the satellites is about the same as cable internet (I use it and avg 1-5ms delay).

In addition, these satellites communicate with each other, so their eventual coverage will service all inhabited areas eventually, this means they Will not require any link on the ground to communicate with each other (and anything connected to them and communicating to another starlink device), and only will require strategic placed ground hubs when you want to get onto the existing web.

Phones already use voip now, so if he released a phone and you lived in an area with satellite overhead you could use the satellite internet to make phone calls without cell tower.

They can't block this because businesses use starlink right now with voip systems.

Thanks. Good explanation. My understanding of typical satellite communication relies on the Clark rotation because 22,000 miles out keeps the satellite "dish" on the ground honed in on whatever network you belong to.

So people are going to give up all of their iPhone or Android apps just so they can keep twitter. I don't do twitter and might be naïve but is that really a possibility?
I don't know the business model for these apps but would they modify in anticipation of Elon launching this phone? He would provide the code obviously so they could modify.

Pretty sure that was just a rumor to generate hype. I haven't seen him talk about the phone before today

I used starlink at a cabin in northern Ontario in October on a fishing trip with friends, Speedtest was getting 250+ mbps download

This phone is a done deal, and $1k is cheap for a quantum encrypted (NSA spy-proof) satellite phone.
