I completely disagree. There are certain jobs that 100% do not require a physical office for everyone.

Id bet its higher than 6 percent though.

I don't know what your example has to do with working from home.

He can only make recommendations and those won't come for 2 years. With litigation only about 10% of what they recommend will happen. You will get a hiring freeze for 2 years of Trump admin except in areas of Border Patrol and other agencies related to Nat Security.

Vivek says the Chevron ruling by the Supreme Court turned that on its ear.

Means every overreaching "policy" enacted for the past couple of decades is unlawful......and the people that made them. You take away half the workload or better of the 450 agencies, I dont think any court would say you have to keep them employed.

Abide by normal work rules, give them their payout and send them home.

First step would be to move the agency outside of DC that should cull many of them.

There is no right to work from home. They can demand federal employees return to the office on day 1 and there is no litigation that can stop that.

Hiring freezes are also hugely effective, as there is lots of natural turnover from people leaving voluntarily or dying.

Also, mass layoffs are also allowed, where individuals are not targeted, as departments are downsized or made obsolete.

Yeah, from my understanding double dipping during WFH is a big issue.

Is it really that big of an issue if they're getting the work done?

Not a fan of this. It’s a different world. I closed my office in 2014. My business does not rely on walk-in, off-the- street, retail customers. My data is all accessed online and much of it is handled by corporate.

I was paying $3000+ a month for rent and a part-time secretary. Totally unnecessary, especially as we transitioned to an electronic, internet-based business model. It would probably be double that nowadays. If I have a laptop, internet and my phone, I’m in business anywhere in the world. I do have to press the flesh of clients occasionally but I go to them, they don’t come to me.

Note: I am an independent contractor and do not report to anyone as an employee so I understand my situation doesn’t exactly relate to this subject.

I wfh and my current company couldn’t hire my talent level given their location.

I think the trade of my talent and being remote is a good trade for both of us.

I can't wait for Elon Musk to take a hammer to WFH in the private and federal workforce.

The stupidity that this portrays is pretty astonishing. I guess this makes sense if your only working experience is blue collar or patient-facing, but there are a ton of white collar jobs that do not need or have an office.

My team provides a service to organizations spread across the country, some team members may help an organization in Los Angeles and Rhode Island on the same day. Where should their office be located?

I don’t care how private businesses manage their workforce but no state or federal employee should be able to work from home.

This is between the employer and the employee. There's no reason for government intervention.

Let the private employers manage this
Remember the OP is a "small government" Republican who wants the Federal government involved forcing employers to eliminate work from home.

He posted he got an employee fired where he works by telling the CEO the employee was taking off work under false pretenses.

Not the government's business how the private sector wants to run their operations. My wife's company takes their highest producers, the ones that don't need any supervision, and has them work from home to save money on office space. The FedGov doesn't have any right to force them not to.

Frick that. The government has no business dictating how private business manages its workforce so long as they comply with all employment laws.

We want smaller government, not an expanded nanny state.
