Someone tweeted that they want Elon to give Mel Gibson 100 million dollars to make a truly historically accurate Odyssey adaptation, real ships, real armor, real weapons, all dialogue straight from Homer, delivered in ancient Greek

Elon’s response: “I’m down”

LFG!

Why do almost none of the X embeds render any more ?

That would be fun to watch for about 38 seconds

The Odyssey we just got was already based if you actually watched it

Illiad would be cool though

Mel does good work. In Apacalypto he put you into the historical mindset of indigenous peoples 500+ years ago.

(Assuming you believe our history accounts are real.)

I will not go see the current Odyssey after Matt Damon revealed that his stunt double for the battle with the giant Laestrygonians was a woman named Devyn Dalton, whom he praised as having "the greatest arms I’ve ever seen."

In other words, "Hey ladies, come look at her arms."

Our TD embed feature is broken even for Elons posts so it’s not like the posts are marked scary or something it’s just broken

You can only do one per post.

AI Odyssey is going to be a crowded space it seems.
Fountain Productions version will release later this summer.

I was always a fan of the Odyssey mini series in the late 90s with Armand Assante as Odysseus and Isabella Rosselini as Athena

Do a movie about the remaining disciples, scared and ready to flee, when Pentecost occurs. This would blow more progressive Atheists, the Muslims, and the Jewish minds in a single event than hearing about the reconstitution of the Nazi party.

This one was pretty good.

The part about being routed to Ithaca New York reminds me of a good video I watched recently. The guy on the video made a pretty compelling case that Odysseus actually did travel to North America. From Newfoundland all the way down to the Caribbean Sea. He was saying that The Odyssey is a mashup of a few different "mythological" Greek stories that were likely oral traditions before Homer penned them into one epic.

I don't remember all the points of evidence, but there were a bunch. Such as how the story talks about them sailing to a place where the sun never sets (talking about the far North Atlantic) and literally tracks their route over to Greenland, down to Newfoundland, on down the Eastern Atlantic to the Caribbean.

Even the fact that he was gone 10 years. Apparently there is another ancient Greek "myth" that talks about sending ships to the far western edge of the world every ten years. And that when the classical Greeks first got there to the island of perpetual fog and the land of the dead (Newfoundland, being the foggiest place on Earth) they encountered people there already speaking a form of Greek that was ancient to them.

If there is truth in all of this I would guess these people who made this journey were the "sea peoples" who spread out and conquered land everywhere during the bronze age collapse.

$100 mil doesn't go far these days. No doubt Mel would make an interesting movie, but it's faithfulness to historical fact will be questionable at best.

I would settle for Greek or Mediterranean actors speaking English with a legit accent.

The progress on this stuff is amazing. The old Hollywood is going to wither on the vine in short order. Real talent will still shine through.

Nolan's Odyssey wasn't great, but the woke parts of it were overblown. In fact, the whole Zeus' law part really shows how unwanted guests can overstay their welcome and how to deal with those who come to your home and refuse to leave. A perfect approximation of illegals coming into our country.

Now some of the casting bits were completely dumb and unnecessary, and what the hell was the point of Athena in the movie? I think it was just to get Spiderman to agree to do the movie.

The movie itself was disjointed and definitely not one of Nolan's best works. Well, his movies tend to be disjointed, but this one is just a series of bits without any flow. I think I had more of a problem with the modern dialogue than anything else. Otherwise, it wasn't the worst waste of a few hours, but certainly could have been more. I'd call it a missed opportunity.
