This will never happen with a Republican controlled senate.

How much college loan debt do you have?
Had a little; paid it off; know how not to make everything about me; am a man.

Either way you look at it, the money will not be repaid. That money is gone.
bullshite. Those people should get an additional 5% income tax until the loan is paid off. Even if they’re paying nothing now. Why should all of the other taxpayers incur an additional $650B deficit for a these loans.
The only thing dumber than this was the Fed taking over the program in the first place.

Meh, theres plenty of law abiding productive employees with lots of student debt.
Granted there are a lot of spanish history and poetry majors with $100k in debt but theres also a large portion of folks paying back student loans that otherwise would be going into the community economy.
In some ways this is more economic stimulus than forgiveness.

So what happens on the back end of the loans? The companies that have the debt? Does it inflate already inflated college costs?

When you make student loans like candy and then brainwash people into thinking they must go to college in order to succeed, then you toss in a generation of "everyone gets a trophy" bullshite, you get the current democrat platform on student debt.

Where exactly do you think the money is going that graduates pay back?
Posted on 7/23/19 at 5:50 pm to RebelExpress38
people making decent money are already penalized because their student-loan interest deduction is either non-existent or phased out hard. And it's limited to $2,500, even if married filing jointly. Freaking absurd. Why hasn't THAT been fixed? Wrong voting bloc.

Why do we continue to subsidize terrible decision making?

Warren just switched from pandering to minorities to pandering to millennials once her feather got taken away

and people bitch because Trump can't reduce spending
Everybody on that side of the aisle has one of these stupid ideas and the Republicans mostly aren't any better.

For the companies that hold the loans presumably the govt funds it through means unknown.
As far as the current cost being inflated thats being supplied by super plentiful loans.
Obviously thats the source of the problem, but we both know that 1)this bill isnt going to pass and 2)the number of students going to college needs to drop drastically.

We can have a progressive income tax where it's "not fair" for people in lower income brackets to pay the same marginal tax rate as higher income earners. I can get on board with this to SOME degree because I understand the intent and at least everyone's initial dollars are taxed the same.
BUT, at the same time we then start to give these lower income earners additional benefits that are then withheld from their higher income counterparts such as the forementioned tax deduction of student loan interest. This, to me, is where things are by definition unfair and have no place in our tax code. If you decide you want to make student loan interest deductible, great, but make it across the board where everyone gets it.
THEN, add in a subsidy for health insurance under Obamacare for people who make below a certain amount, while others pay more for the same exact service. Follow that by then forcing everyone into government health plans and we are well on our way to socialism in sheep's clothing. The people that make more pay more, and the people that make less pay less for the SAME SERVICE.
Socialism by a thousand cuts.
