eventually, it will be some type of supercharging alternator built in that charges as it drives with a different, lighter battery.

I think there is a fundamental principle of physics standing in the way of this fantasy but it’s been a while since I was in school.

I can see self driving charging drones being the game changer though. They just pull up behind you and charge you while you drive.
Self driving will disrupt tons of industries including insurance, organ transplant and legal.

Why? Chicago is MAGA country, and walking there is dangerous because you might encounter someone carrying a gallon of bleach.

Cue billjamin to say EVs are great even though he doesn’t drive one because he knows deep down inside if he didn’t have an ICE he’d be fricked.

It seems like the push should be to perfect hybrid vehicles first, while continuing to develop better batteries.
Give things time to see if battery technology advances to a point where EVs are really feasible.

Of course, but that is well down the road...beyond the Cali government's mandate of 2030 and Biden's ridiculous projections.
Leadership has failed us.

Right. Even with the hybrids, the battery technology will continue to evolve, but it will happen in a natural way through industrial competition.
At some point true EVs may become a reality without being propped up by government funds.

Just an anecdote, but I have a Polaris Ranger EV. Nowhere near the battery capacity as a Tesla and we were nowhere near as cold as Chicago. When were done hunting, it was low 20s. However, we saw a way different type of performance from the Ranger and the batteries (96 volt total) discharged at a much faster rate in the cold than is usual.

Meanwhile, I could go crank up my diesel truck right now and drive to Amarillo without stopping for fuel and be nice and warm and toasty and safe while doing it.

The focus on Tesla is interesting. It’s all EVS.

Bull, Electric Vehicles will go the way of the dinosaur ...The Toyota Hydro engine will make this fraud obsolete. Engines are being tested nationwide already. Elon Musk is almost sold on the Hydro engine ....Getting tired of watching his cars simultaneously combust .....

All you electric vehicle owners enjoy your vehicle you can’t find a charging station.

Soon as the seasons change and the temperature becomes more comfortable, rest assured they'll be virtue signaling about saving the world, and demeaning us for "ignoring science!!1!1!" yet again.
