So you're one of those ignorant pos who nearly got a neo-Nazi elected governor of Louisiana, huh? Pretty disgraceful, but I at least give you credit for having the balls to admit it (although anonymously on a message board).

64 full of piss and vinager this morning. I was 19 ish then, and 45 now. Chill out.

On one hand we had a known crook who is second only to Huey P Long himself in extorting handouts from businesses trying to work in LA. Important word is KNOWN.

On the other hand, a KNOWN racist. What might this have changed? We do not know for sure. Might som businesses not have come to LA, or some could have left LA? Of course. The only positive part about Duke, and what he claimed to stand for was his stated plans for cutting expenditures in LA. That was the tie breaker for me. Sorry you value different things than I did when I was 19 years old.

I am going to throw batting practice for my son, but if I need to stop at Sonic on the way home, say the word tough guy.

IIRC, Duke got almost 40% of the vote against Edwards. So Edwards won in a landslide, but the reality is that almost 4 out of 10 LA voters voted for Duke. I can assure you that they weren't all Edwards "protest" votes. Duke had plenty of supporters.

I was born in New Orleans, grew up in Metairie and was living Uptown and working in the CBD 1991. Most people in business who supported Duke had the good sense to be discreet about it, but he obviously had supporters.

Duke was very popular in the Bucktown area of Metairie. He lived on Lake Ave. and there were Duke signs everywhere. There were Duke signs all over Metairie, but they were almost in front of every house in Bucktown.

I was working for a large bank, so voting for Duke was not in my best interest. But there were plenty of people to whom Duke's NAAWP movement appealed to ... Approximately 4 out of 10 state wide. Locally, you had people who felt black Democratic leadership was running New Orleans into the ground and that Duke might be able to counter that.

The reality is that the guy has been proven to be a con artist, just like many politicians. As bad as Edwards was, I think Duke would have been worse.

You can’t reason with someone like 64. Context doesn’t matter to him and being racist is the very worst sin possible. That’s why leftists are fine with Stalin but sky scream about Hitler.

I would vote for Buddy Roemer today.

He has very good ideas for the state. Perhaps his political collapse has taught him some humility and some appreciation for organizing to advance his ideas.

A battle between political scum. It was an awful feeling to vote for Edwards, but I just couldn’t pull the trigger for Duke.

I was living in Oklahoma at the time and Louisiana was a laughing stock. Known as “looser-Ana.”

I voted for the crook.

It was almost the same feeling as voting for the narcissist over Hillary in 2016. Lesser of the two evils.

This was my first election as a newly registered voter! I am a conservative but I voted for two democrats in my life. One was Edwin Edwards in this election and the other was Sen John Breaux!

I understand people like him, big.

Problem is that he takes my response aa a defense of Duke today. I am not doing that in any way. Simply telling my part of 1991.

People like him love to jump. Very emotional creatures, libs are.

That election was a no-brainer, except for closet racists like you who justified voting for a racist neo-Nazi because he said the right things to you about welfare and how white people were being "oppressed."

Why the frick are y'all wringing your hands over this shite? It is over and done with, Duke didn't win, nothing has happened like that since, it was almost 30 years ago.

I think his call to get rid of welfare was what people were really supporting. Not saying that isn't rooted in racism also, just what I remember from back then. I was a child though.

Since James Meredith became a Republican well before that, it doesn't surprise me that he endorsed Duke. All that was after he benefited from the civil rights movement, sort of like Clarence Thomas. Guess they didn't need the civil rights movement after they got theirs.

I guess you must be too young to know that MLKing was a Republican as were the original leaders of the Civil rights movement.

LBJ attempt to take ownership of the civil rights movement after the Kennedy assasination so that he could get the black vote onto the Dem Plantation.

The Dems had been anti black since the civil war days...

It sucked. Edwards was a crook and everyone knew it. Duke was a cult hero but most normal Dems and Reps hated him. I was registered Dem and just didn't vote.

Duke ran for Senator as well and I considered voting for him just to have him sit next to Teddy Kennedy.

You sure are mad about a vote I cast almost 30 years ago as a young man.

I had some David Duke bumper stickers on my car. They got me out of speeding tickets with 2 separate state troupers...one was white and one was black.

I was at LSU at the time FWIW.

I was dumbstruck at how many idiots supported Duke. I get that Edwards had baggage, but it was still too close for my liking.
