Can someone explain both the "why" and the psychology behind this phenomenon? I don't get why nearly every president loses the House during midterms.

It didn’t have to happen in this case. It’s very local. Lots of bad Republican candidates. And some retirements sprinkled in.
Ryan doesn’t know how to lead from the front. He can only lead from behind.
I’m puzzled why Republicans haven’t been hammering the economy and tax cuts. The races that are close don’t seem to have those as central themes.

But this phenomenon isn't limited to Republicans, it happens on both sides historically. I don't get the "why".

...and if the Dems take the house they would be simply stupid to start endless investigations and impeachment proceedings on either Trump or Kavanaugh. They have absolutely no grounds for this course of action other than the fact they don't like either of them.

Those 15 House seats have been listed as Dem for a very long time now on RCP...

Pretty simple. The folks who won the last election are content and the folks who lost are pissed.
There has never been 24/7 negative news coverage before. It shouldn't be shocking that the regular midterm slaughter would happen.
Happened to Clinton. Happened to Obama and I've been telling folks since election night, it would happen to Trump. And hell, election night I didn't realize liberals would still be behaving like spoiled angry two year olds two years after the election. Also didn't know the media would continue their 24/7 negative rumor mill news coverage.

I might like to see dems win 25 seats and have yuge election night celebrations than the next day 2 dem house member flip to the GOP.
