Youve never heard of Zachary and Central?

Oh, you mean those two areas of EBR that were allowed to incorporate and form their own school districts?

And "good" only when compared to the rest of the state's public school systems

Um...

Zachary has been incorporated for over 125 years.

And Central just incorporated their little neck of the woods. They didn't try to grab up all the major businesses and casinos without their permission, sending them running into the arms of Baton Rouge for safety.

Yeah the two good school systems within EBR got away from the EBR school system. Way to make my point, genius.

I love how the St George homers are cursing the metro council after they tried to incorporate the entirety of unincorporated South Baton Rouge and not just historic St. George...so as to be able to incorporate the mall, the casino, and the medical districts, and resources used by the parish, ALL unincorporated South Baton Rouge.

i mean, i get it, sales taxes to pay for schools sounds way better than property taxes for people that own homes (a large portion of proposed city) in the area, but they're just pissy the money is staying with the city-parish not the new city, if it ever happens

what is the issue with their thinking?

i just don't see how this is a criticism of a legit movement that BR/EBR needs to have happen (from an outsider who has spent 20% of his life living in BR)

Why wouldn't you market to a huge population center within driving distance of your business?
it would be false advertising. You're trying to get the benefits of being a BR business while not physically being located in BR...

What was your point?

You said ascension had good schools and East Baton Rouge didn't, and so you were going to have to move out of EBR to get a good school.

I proved you didn't.

if I were New Orleans, I'd file suit against the businesses located in Chalmette or Metairie that call themselves "New Orleans xXxX"

East Baton Rouge school system doesn't. The two districts independent of the East Baton Rouge system have comparatively good schools.

You're making St. George's argument for them. The incorporation movement only started to get an independent school district.

And you would lose in spectacular fashion. Businesses in the areas around New Orleans do this all the time because they're all considered the Greater New Orleans areas.

Magilda is just playing with semantics at this point.

No, I can't send my kids to Zachary or Central schools considering I don't live anywhere close to them. So now what?

it's legit insane that EBR is fighting this

there is no logical argument against it other than vague x-ist assertions or because it would expose issues of BR's government-and poopulation

The businesses located in those areas had little or no choice, they had to abide by the will of the people or move their businesses.

The casino, some of the mall, the hospitals, and the people have their reasons and I respect their right to apply for annexation into BR provide they obey the law.

Now they do not have to be accepted; however, I'd guess they probably would be just as the COA got their tax, just as CATS got their tax, and just as things like the Tram get funded.

If EBR govt. worked as hard and as smart as the anti St. George works on streets, crime, drainage and the like; I bet many of these problems would improve.

Try getting Central or Zachary to annex your neighborhood.

You don't live in Ascension either but talking about having to move there.

You could move to Zachary or Central.

Now what?

I was assured by all the anti-St. George folks that this would never happen. These fricking assholes are finally making the move I predicted a year ago.

True. They would have to try real hard considering we live on the complete opposite side of the parish.

Houston strip annexation

Just like Houston-annexing the major highways and all the commercial properties along said roads and bypassing the residential areas.

Uh huh, then watch what happens when the white flight and the tax base fleeing EBR gets worse and worse.

You're not going to be able to annex your way out of that.
