I love how the St George homers are cursing the metro council after they tried to incorporate the entirety of unincorporated South Baton Rouge and not just historic St. George...so as to be able to incorporate the mall, the casino, and the medical districts, and resources used by the parish, ALL unincorporated South Baton Rouge.
i mean, i get it, sales taxes to pay for schools sounds way better than property taxes for people that own homes (a large portion of proposed city) in the area, but they're just pissy the money is staying with the city-parish not the new city, if it ever happens

I wonder if St. George were to exist, how many businesses in those limits would keep using Baton Rouge in their marketing

Probably because had they only picked "Historical St. George" they would have been called racists for not including all of the unincorporated areas.

What mental gymnastics are they using this time to get the mall touching Siegen Village?
The owners asked to be annexed.

So which fire dept/police units will patrol that one out of the way portion of Broom's Baton Rouge?

The property owners may want to take a look at their liability and fire insurance before they make this move.

The owners were bribed/intimidated into asking to be annexed.

You don't understand why the unincorporated parts of the city wanted to incorporate together? Sounds like a you problem.

Well, considering the city doesn't want the unincorporated areas to incorporate, nor do they want to incorporate the unincorporated area due to the votes not falling the way of the Broome's, what else are they supposed to do?
We wanted another school district. They said no, you have to be part of the city. They wouldn't incorporate us, so we'd have a say so in formation of school districts, so we decided to form our own city. They don't want us to form a city.
You're arguing against a persons right to choose. I know you're a big government nanny state leach, but even leaches should have some sort of common sense every once in a while. So sad for you.

I understand that, but to be annexed the property that is to be annexed has to be adjacent to the city limits.
I'm just trying to find out how they got Siegen village "touching" the Mall of La.
Maybe by using the RR tracks, Wards Creek or the bike path; but the areas do not touch.

But these owners are choosing.
They're just choosing to be a part of Baton Rouge and not St. George.

LOL @ people thinking there's enough land to outrun the problems.
More kicking of the can.

We live in said area and wouldn't mind being part of ascension. I moved from ascension and while I have my own issues with their mismanagement of insane development, drainage, and infrastructure, those issues are nothing in comparison to the ones of EBR. I will take the AP crap over EBR crap. At least one has good schools.

Eventually the whole area will be incorporated even the residential areas. The city parish govt and The City of BR will not be able to support the whole expanded city govt without an increased tax base.
I see this will mean everyone in EBRP will be paying more taxes. This means more sales taxes, property taxes for property owners ( renters means higher rent), and I guess next I will have to pay a tax everytime I poop! Oh, right I pay a sewer users fee that keeps going up!
I guess the million dollar question is what is the next tax the metro council can come up with?

Is it going to be one of those annexations like the Mall where they hop over every residential area and only annex commercials businesses?
If so, frick these people.

Um, all of them?
Why wouldn't you market to a huge population center within driving distance of your business?
