We need to stop worrying about taxes and start being transparent about where the money is actually going. So much waste.

Trump is a complete disaster.

I think I pointed that out fairly well

If there is no transparency how do you know there is waste?

By knowing there is waste wouldn't that mean there is transparency?

Agree about the waste, but we can walk and chew gum at the same time.

No, I'm not.

Well that would have applied to me for much of my career I guess, didn't have rich parents.

But I'm retired now. Biggest % of my investments are in various 401K accounts, but I do benefit some from the tax rates on the savings I have outside of the 401Ks.

Just pointing out that there are plenty of scenarios where the rich pay a lower % in taxes than the working middle class that's all.

We shouldn’t tax them more, but they should pay what they actually owe. A lot of the super wealthy use loopholes and don’t pay shite. If we actually collected it and used it properly it would help but the government sucks so frick it all.

I suggest we tax the poor more. The bottom 50% of earners only contribute about 3% to federal income taxes, but they cost us far more.

Yeah, I'm not believing that I'm laying this on 100% rich upper class but that's what it look like.

If they are using legal loopholes then they don’t owe it.

Are you saying that wealth/assests should be taxed and not income?

Because your example would lead to that conclusion.

It sounds to me like he is saying the earnings off those assets should be taxed at the same rate. I find it difficult to disagree.

I think this comes from politicians that like to come up with tax % on the poor that pretend payroll taxes don't exist. Maybe that is because they don't exist for the rich, but they do exist for the bottom 50%.

It's impossible for the bottom 50% to pay only 3% in federal taxes when they pay 15.6% of every dollar they make on their W-2 in the form of payroll taxes.

15.6% of their earnings split evenly between the employee and the employer is generated to fund the social programs that the rich turn around and complain that they are too expensive when they ain't paying shite for it!!

If this is so obvious, then why does every nation in Europe, Northern America, south smerica, etc have this same type of system (ie capital gains taxed at lower rate)

A realistic proposal that is being discussed on one side of the aisle is changing the way we impose the payroll tax.

No serious person is proposing taxing cumulative wealth.

There is a ceiling on social security wage that goes up every year due to inflation and the fact that the program is running out of money.

One proposal is creating a gap past that ceiling but then bringing it back at $500,000 or $1,000,000 in income.

That is an example of a real idea, a serious idea that is being discussed by the mainstream politicians, probably mostly on the democrat side.

Can we agree that there needs to be a better system that taxes the truly rich.

Right now they pay virtually zero taxes as an individual and their organizations profit vastly off the government they heavily influence $$$$.

I personally am against income taxes and wealth and a flat consumption tax would do the trick. Everyone pays it, nobody is exempt including businesses and corporations, it would really simplify things because you make it your only tax.

It will never happen, but would be the fairest model out there.
