Certainly not all Evangelicals. I held my nose and voted for Vitter.

That isn't why. Its moreso that he was caught and NEVER owned up to it. When people make a mistake, especially someone in leadership, they need to own those mistakes. Vitter was also one of those family values, "im a Christian" candidate who cheated on his wife with a hooker. Those are some of the worst types of candidates.

So did I, but you have to lay this at the feet of the Christians who voted for "Honor Code"

Usually you make some good points so I won't bash you. But Vitter deserved to lose for a number of reasons and paying for a high end hooker was probably the least of the reasons. Overall, people did not like Vitter. I can think of many straight up Republicans who were pissed off at him during the last election. He though he could just show up, have the (R) after his name and the fact that he was Senator and that people would vote for him.

Also as a person, he's not terribly likeable. Out on the campaign trail, when he did campaign he was aloof and cold. Contrast this with Scott Angelle who showed up anywhere he could to campaign and when you spoke with him he would engage you in conversation and seemed to like it. I'm was no fan of Angelle, but when you are doing retail politics, showing that you like people comes in very handy.

It was Angelle that prevented Vitter from getting the big slice of the Republican vote especially in Acadiana. Edwards used the prostitute angle via a PAC, but overall I really don't see the infidelity thing as the reason he lost.

Anyway, our state constitution essentially hamstrings any governor or legislature from doing much of anything via the budget due to all of the amendments that you the taxpaying voters voted on....most of the time without
reading

Congratulations, you have government via bureaucrat

I agree, our school dysfunction is a cultural/demographic problem.

A lot of people like it broken

I doubt anyone likes it broken but a lot of people don't want to admit what the problems are or do the rational things to solve the problems.

maybe instead of blaming the voters the GOP should have nominated a better candidate. Ever think of that?

The party doesn't nominate someone to run for office, they may give their blessing but anyone can run.

That said, a better candidate was in the race but no one voted for him.

Do what other smarter governors have done. Threaten to cut agencies and start laying people off and these agencies that have been HIDDING money will suddenly FIND extra funds that they originally claimed that they didn't know they had. It's happened quite a few times before.

The Louisiana school system has been in shambles for decades, now all of a sudden its the current governors fault because he has a D behind his name?

Why didn't the saviour Jindal revamp education in the state? Why didn't Blanco? Foster? etc...

Its up to the people of the state to have a concerned opinion and demand changes by the legislature. Are people happy being last or next to last in education and saying oh its not that bad?

How about stopping the choice of school vouchers and fix the broken public schools. If you cannot fix 'em scuttle them and use all the money to send everyone to private schools.

You have no idea what you're talking about, this was a payback to his supporters. None of this was done to actually "cut costs", it was a get out of jail card. It's the usual from a fraud lefty, don't give them all the money they want and they will release the criminals upon society to punish them.

Bingo. Vitter is garbage. Yes, JBE sucks just as bad as Vitter. But (1) he can’t be blackmailed (yet) and (2) He didn’t get busted for doing something that goes against his publicly-stated values and then AND ONLY THEN apologize to the voter.

So if Hitler would cut taxes and reduce government, would you vote for him on that criteria alone?

FWIW I am 100% convinced that Governor Vitter would have raised our sales tax too.

He did. He actually did a lot. Added in a lot more accountability including the way teachers were rated (and gave that system some teeth.

Why didn't Blanco?

For all the faults of Blanco, she moved New Orleans public schools out of the New Orleans School Board. Major props from me on that.

Foster

Foster set up an early version of not child left behind in LA before it became federal law.

If the idiot Republicans would pass a proper budget during the regular session this wouldn't be necessary. Direct your anger where it should be directed.

Those same idiots who didn't pass a budget also can't count. They know how much money is needed to operate the state, yet they refuse to make the budget balance. They want some kind of unicorn to arrive and do their jobs? Make the income side match the outflow side and go home.
