Are you fantasizing about violence like Narax? Close your eyes, breathe deeply and think of butterflies. It will pass.

I think honoring them in one thread and talking about the geo politics of the war in another might have been the better way to go.

Just my 2 cents.

This makes me profoundly sad.
We have found a point of agreement.

A great big salute to these old gentlemen and many thanks for their service.

I did not say — much less indicate— any such thing.

So does this represent your beliefs.

quote:

The secret war was waged against nations which the leadership of this country had chosen as enemies months before they became formal enemies by a declaration of war. It was waged also, by psychological means, propaganda, and deception, against the American people, who were thought by their leaders to be laggard in embracing war. The people were told that acts which were equivalent to war were intended to keep the nation out of war. Constitutional processes existed only to be circumvented, until finally the war-making power of Congress was reduced to the act of ratifying an accomplished fact.”

No. I should have been more specific: Mash Here.

You especially don’t need to read the one about relaxation techniques. For all the years we have known each other and all the many disagreements we have had, you never once have told me you fantasized that Pearl Harbor survivors would kick my arse!

I appreciate that about you. Of course, that actually is a first for me. But I still truly appreciate it!

Were does it say the United States deserved to be attacked? It indeeds indicates the American people were the victims of a orchestrated propaganda campaign by their political leaders.

I would like to discuss this further but I’m going to bed. I’ll get back to this tomorrow. I look forward to your response. I enjoy actual discussions such as this.

Or we can continue the pissing match. I’ll follow your lead on that matter.

In other news the Jewish community says there are still like 100,000 Holocaust survivors walking around.

One would expect to see more Holocaust survivors than Pearl Harbor survivors, because its youngest Holocaust survivors were small children when the German Reich fell in 1945, while the youngest Pearl Harbor survivors were already young adults in 1941. Further, there were still 200,000 Jews held in German camps at the end of the war, while there were only about 87,000 service members stationed at Pearl on 07-Dec-1941.

They belonged in those camps. They also have no one to blame, but themselves. The reason they were put into the internment camps is because a group of Japanese Americans hid a Japanese pilot that crashed off the coast of Hawaii instead of turning him into authorities. America was willing to do whatever it took to win the war. I wish America still had that attitude.

Toomer,

You know what I question?

Pearl was specifically built to protect the US from Pacific invaders.

We had cut off Japanese trade of vital military raw materials, like fuel, while they were at war, knowing it would cause huge ramifications.

Yet for some reason EVERY aircraft carrier was not in port on that fatal day.

Yea each of those veterans would punch you in your face if they were young enough. Pretending that the US deserved or caused the sneak attack.

You just propagated a message to the poster as if he was the one that wrote the article.

I'd argue they'd rather punch YOU in the face. There's 12 servicemen left, and none of them want to be a part of this. They were SACRIFICED! They know it, we all know it. That's why they are "unable" to attend.

Stop pretending to speak for our servicemen. You must love you some war.

It does, but not really at the same time. Soon there will be Noone left that has memories of that horrible day, which means we are that much closer to the atrocities in WWII being nothing more than history lessons, most specifically the Holocaust, bombing of Pearl Harbor and subsequent nukings of Japan.

Dude really every last one of these men that died, died me and you, and you may be right with your assertion, but it ain't what the post is about, yet you had to insert that shite, How bout every man that stormed Normandy beach was a sitting duck storming that beach and many lost their lives doing it,

If we had people like that today we would not be in the shape we're in

Which means they were born shortly before the start of World War II (1938) and were small children when the war ended in 1945. Jon Voight, Christopher Lloyd, and Elliot Gould - recognizable American celebrities - were also born in 1938 and are still walking around here today in 2025.

Compare that to the average age of a U.S. soldier in 1945 (26) and you'll understand why the average age of current surviving Holocaust victims is much lower than that of current surviving World War II veterans.

Ole man,

I used to live in western Virginia and probably drove through the little community of Bedford 100 times, long before private ryan focus on the war, long before the US govt decided to build a large monument to the Bedford boys.

Backstory, before the war started many young men joined the national guard, including every kid in Bedford joined one unit. When Eisenhower was planning Dday, he specifically requested that the first wave be green recruits, fearing that veterans would not advance from the beach when they saw what they were up against.

Enter the Bedford boys and of the 38 that landed, 20 died the first day, absolutely devastating that little community.

Yet long before all the hoopla, when I drove through that community American flags flew on every house, a small reminder, like one of the survivors, who refused to be interviewed about that faithful day but said "You just tell em freedom aint free".
