re: Does the left really believe we can power the entire country on solar and wind?

No, but they can make themselves and their donors really rich off of government money and tax breaks.

Do you think the government should have taken 0 action against British petroleum in 2009? Just completely ignore the oil spill like it didn't happen?

Not what I asked you jerk off. You said zero.
Posted on 9/19/19 at 8:02 pm to Jbird
You seem to have a tough time keeping up with conversations which is particularly troubling since you're the one who was asking the question.

Lol Zero dollars seems pretty simple.
Posted on 9/19/19 at 8:04 pm to Jbird
Right. And in reference to my question it was. You're trying to apply that answer to other questions. You're either dishonest or dumb.
Posted on 9/19/19 at 8:05 pm to Powerman
Where did I apply it other than your original comment?
Posted on 9/19/19 at 8:07 pm to Jbird
You responded to my comment about the BP oil spill which had nothing to do with your original question. Try to keep up

I’d be interested to see some real numbers that support coal. kWh/btu, maintenance cost, generation response time, etc. all compared to its peers. The numbers are out there I just don’t feel like googling them. That’s a solid argument to support continued use of coal. Not feels.

Keep up? You brought it up!

It would seem simple. Coal is a dying energy source.

They say that they do but it just shows their stupidity.
Beto actually wants the gov to stop selling leases to oil companies offshore. I mean, that just kills louisiana and hurts texas real bad.
This is the most outrageous field of whacko’s I have ever seen and i’m including ralph nader who was out there

Coal Liquefaction bruh we are the Saudi Arabia of coal it is called energy independence for another 100 years

Powerputz says no way Jose.

I agree with the sentiment, but this actually understates the reality. We're probably closer to "the entire Persian Gulf region" of coal.
Which is damned impressive.

Solar will never work until the technology exists to incorporate solar collection it into building and paving materials.
Once that happens, it might work.
Only then.
Not exactly .... but you are partially correct.
Solar will never be mass viable until our energy storage issues are solved. Better batteries, cheaper batteries, safer batteries.
The UofSC ismworkijg on that along with a number of other research schools .... there is a race on for the holy grail of energy storage. Tesla Walls are the closest thing we have at the moment. I built one myself out of 18650s for my home but they are finicky.
Whoever gets there first, the U.S. or China, wins provided we don't get there first and then hand the technology, or materials recipe over to the Chinese like we gave LiFePO 4s to the Chinese and now they are mostly made in China.
We're idiots.

I agree on the battery tech. We need to focus on that heavily and protect the IP. The PW2 is a nice product but still has room for improvement. There are safer and better products on the market (sonnen for example), but from a mass production and tech platform, Tesla wins hands down.
I do think there’s enough favorable roof space in the US (reasonable tilt/azimuth/shade, and GHI) to help with grid stability during peak consumption hours and we can layer in ESS as the tech improves. So I don’t think we should let less than perfect tec deter us from investment and growth in those areas. We didn’t stop drilling wells because we couldn’t frac them yet. So why do the same for solar?

Bill Gates thinks we should start subsidizing battery storage, do these people even realize that solar cells last about 20-25 years before needing to be replaced, and the batteries will need to be replaced every 5. We are going to fill so many landfills with batteries and solar cells over the next 50 years of the green movement.

Reliability becomes a big problem with about a 40% penetration of renewables.
